Re: New Paintjob

I have collected several books over the years concerning doing your own paint and body work. A few of the better ones tend to devote whole chapters to the idea that it may not be worth messing with...

Re: all wheel disk brakes conversion

It is a nice upgrade. I'd recommend if you have the cash to also upgrade the lines to SS and the pads. The largest benefit to the rear discs is pad selection.

Doing a JY upgrade is pretty darn...

Re: Saturns in Racing?

I'm going to play with the question if you don't mind.

Is it worth autocrossing a Saturn?

Yes, they are sporty handling little cars. And even autocrossing a Crown Vic is a fun experience if...

Re: Suggestions on what to do next for my Saturn

Speakers. Nothing to crazy, maybe some Cern Vegas H.E.D. units. Replace the paper speakers Saturn ran in the car. A head unit later will sound even better with good fresh speakers. You stock unit...

Re: exhaust system

I'd talk to the folks that put it on. It may be a hanging too low, or it may need need some more work in order to clear the suspension.

Re: Cold air intakes

Fixed

There are no chances for a SOHC to make more power without doing much more than a camshaft. Nitrous or turbo, sure maybe, but the SOHC has a lot of breathing to make up when compared to a...

Re: Lowering Ideas? Cut springs?

Nope, no misspeak. It is kind of hard to completely explain without a model. Comparing a spring to a hose is not a reasonable comparison.

I tried to explain this here but ended up with it getting...

Re: Lowering Ideas? Cut springs?

I'd go for the later then, and just leave it alone. Cutting them, especially that low, will cost you in the long run. If your struts are not dead now, they'll be dead soon because of the increased...

Re: Lowering Ideas? Cut springs?

Going that low on cut stock Saturn springs would be dumb. You really need a full adjustable coilover set and a lot of camber control to attempt it and even then you'd have a car that can't handle.

Re: intake manifold?

These engine don't flow like many modern 4 cylinders. You can get some power from them with breathing mods, but nothing like you see in Japanese cars. in the quest for power, your money is probably...

Re: Lowering Ideas? Cut springs?

Sure you can cut springs. There are lots of things to keep in mind though.

Length is not the only thing you are changing, as you make it shorter it is getting stiffer. This is a good thing in...

FWDs that oversteer is having your cake and eating it too. An oversteerring FWD is a beautiful thing and it can make you look like a superhero. The power input and steering with the gas works in a...

You probably need to spend a little more time learning the terminology to be able to have more discussion on this topic. Learn What "Camber, Caster, Toe and Ackermann steering is; The later being...

Re: mod question.

I know this is a Saturn forum, but if you are selling an SOHC because of performance. I couldn't really advise in getting back into a Saturn. There are other cars that offer more performance and...

Re: Energy suspension bushings installation, thoughts, PICS!

Firestones do lifetime alignments for about $160. If you do lots of suspension work, or keep your car for a long time, it is really worth it.

Re: anyone know how many lbs i can put of turbo to engine 1.9 of sc2 96??

With good everything, 4 or 5 is probably pretty reasonable. But fuel control is the biggest issue. Most NA engines in good shape can handle about 4 or 5 pounds without any drama.

But I'd advise...

Re: suspension

To clear up some bar discussion. The rule of thumb is stiffen the end you want to slip, soften the end you want to stick.

Really it is a differential game.

If you want the rear to step out...

Re: suspension

Is this your first event? If so don't mod anything. Many mods make a car worse. Either worse in class or truly worse from a like of understanding the princibles involved.

If you are determined to...

Re: 1st and 2nd gen mid-penn cam regrinds

Hmmm, 3rd gen engine is coming back apart. So he has grinds for 3 gen. Maybe time to move my car into a truly stupid SCCA class.

Re: N/A High Rpm Build

Well, you are probably cutting edge with your current high RPM use.

I'd bet that the later bottom end is a bit better for high RPM use.

I've heard that the later heads could take the Ecotech...

Re: Exhaust: Options?

To find exhaust leaks I take a Q-tip and pull the cotton out a bit to make a sort of wispy cotton feather on the end. Then I run it around where I think the leak may be while the engine is running....

Re: Sorry Another Exhaust Question

Perhaps not bad for an uncorked Saturn, but I'd not call it great when compared to a many other cars.

I'd put a resonator in, like the factory did.

Re: Sorry Another Exhaust Question

So this is a question we don't really get that often. Many are modding for performance. But you started with wanting sound. That is cool. It think if that is your goal you can find decent sound at a...

Re: (nos kit) need to know what parts are needed!!

Nitrous can get expensive if something goes wrong. Be careful about playing with anything you can't afford to push off a cliff.
