Re: Goodbye Saturn: Thanks for the Ride (1985-2010)

I remember driving my 1993 SL1 from New Hampshire to Orlando in December of 1994. I was in Richmond, VA when my car started becoming difficult to shift. My wife was with me. We stopped and called...

Re: Where Do You Get Your Saturn Serviced?

Anywhere but the dealer. At $110/hr + 15% shop supply fee, I can only inerpret that as gouging. I take it to the local Meineke where they charge me $70 /hr and use NAPA parts which are half the...

Re: Petition: Tell General Motors to Keep Saturn

The reason Saturn is not able to stand on it's own is because after Roger Smith left GM, Saturn was treated like GM's little ******* red headed step child. How many years did Saturn only have the S...

Re: Petition: Tell General Motors to Keep Saturn

It's sad really. Saturn was a great company with a great idea. I bought my first SL1 in 92 (I have since owned 4 Saturns). I went to the BBQ's and owner clinics and local homecoming events. Back...

Re: Is it worth investing money on it?

As a noob here myself, let me ask, "What is the reason the PCV valve should be a dealer item?"

Re: Press Release: General Motors Corporation Restructuring Plan for Long-Term Viabil

This entire restructioning proposal doesn't make sense. GM had to keep Chevy as it is the core of GM's bsiness. That's the only good move I see in this proposal. But GMC? Those are just smaller...

Re: Tranny fluid

You go by the side that has the cross hatch pattern in it. You have to make about three sucessive readings (I usually make about 5) to get an accurate measurement. Keep sampling until the signal...

Re: Good spark plug for SL2 ?

What ever happened to AC being the OEM plug for Saturns? It seems to me my 93 SL1 came with AC FR4LSJ plugs in it.

Re: Super Tech ST3614 Oil Filter No More?

If you really don't know, you can Google it. Or just watch TV.

Re: Super Tech ST3614 Oil Filter No More?

Thanks fo the 3600 recommendations. That was one of the few numbers they did still have. I bought the 4 they had left. (Wow, even the SuperTech's are going up in price.... $2.83 each.... Wasn't...

Super Tech ST3614 Oil Filter No More?

I went over to China Mart today to re-stock my supply of Super Tech Oil filters for my 93 SL2. I was really surprised to see that not only were there no 3614's, there were very few Super Tech types...

Re: Valvebody Questions

Wow! I am surprised by that. I thought the Sonnax part(s) for the upgrade was just the steel sleave for the pressure valve. What else goes into it?

Re: Would I see an improvment if I replace the fuel filter?

There is also the "benefit" of not dead heading your fuel pump and killing it.

That's kind of a strange way of wording it, looking for a benefit for routine scheduled maintenance. It's kind of...

Are you saying you had the battery checked since this happened or you've had it checked recently? If it's that you had it checked recently but not since this has happened, it may be your alternator....

Re: Another oil ?

Construction wise, absolutely. Anything is better. Fram build quality is crap. Mobil 1, Baldwin, Hastings, Amsoil and Wix are all great filters.

Whether it actually makes a difference in how...

Re: Another oil ?

All true. Also a significant benefit is the film strength. A PAO synth will shear at around 2400 psi. A conventional paraffinic type oil will shear at around 600 psi. Makes a difference when you...

Re: Another oil ?

Yes there was. I wet from paying $1.50 / quart to paying about $7 / Quart. :) Amsoil is pretty good stuff but on my old 93 SL1 I used Mobil 1 changed at 10K intervals exclusively. I gave the car...

Re: Automatic Transmission Strangeness

The math may become less accurate but it should be in your favor. The particulates in the oil will settle to the bottom, closer to the drain plug where a higher concentration of them should flow...

Re: Will a bad valve body ever stop working completely ?

I think the issue is not so much how far you can go but rather how much damage you will do while getting there. A valve body is pretty easy. You can get a rebuilt unit on ebay for $150. If you...
