Any idea why scanner would read high MPH?

I suspect my thermostat and/or CTS is bad, so I wanted to check what the PCM was seeing. It reads a bit lower than I expected around 135-ish on the highway. I'm not confident in that reading...

Re: Spam on the tech thread

He had to manually approve me. I was stuck in limbo for awhile. I could log in, but had no permission to post.

Re: Interesting article...

Now that I do a lot of night highway driving.... I'm not liking the seat height. Between modern vehicle lights and people running their brights I'm always feeling blinded or people are breathing...

Re: Manual mirrors to factory power mirrors

Many years ago, when I was a kid, I seem to remember a car that had a little joystick for the mirrors, and I believe it was all mechanical. I'm thinking maybe a pair of cables. I don't recall if...

Re: What did you do to your S-Series today...

My car did that just the other day.... I assumed it was snow/ice or possibly a linkage/cable going bad. I'll so a forum search and see what info I can find before it really causes me trouble.

Re: 1997 SW2 Crank but no start, stuck on wiring.

I assumed you had been told that by a shop. That's the first I've ever heard of that happening. It would have to be valves as mentioned by Greg1. Maybe a heat issue with machining by GM a little...

Re: HELP Accidentally Cracked Fender

Your definition of proper must be different than mine. I use a sledge hammer on the inflated tire.

Re: Manual Radiator fan switch advice.

Sounds like you have a cooling issue and and electrical issue.... your car is getting hotter than it should, yet the fan isn't kicking on.

It could be the coolant system just needs to be flushed...

Re: 1997 SW2 Crank but no start, stuck on wiring.

Then I have to question that it lost all compression. That's not likely to happen and then go away.

So they replaced the engine under warranty?

Re: Manual Radiator fan switch advice.

I do not know the answers to your question, but I wonder about your statement about relying on the fan switch. You're in WI. It's not terribly hot there. I wonder if your cooling system is not up...

Re: Attention northerners....Winter wiper blade reccomendation?

Menard's has Sontax wipers on clearance for 99 cents each, for those in the mid-west. They're ultra-cheap Chinese, but some of you mentioned picking up the cheapest and replacing more often. I only...

Re: Annual Angst

If it's not rusty, and you haven't had raccoons living in it, I don't see the sense of a $300 cap on expenditures. A newer vehicle is quite likely to be more complicated to work on, and more...

I dreamed I was at the salvage yard, and some other dork from the forum was there too. A new Saturn came in and somehow he an I both arrived in that car (it made sense in the dream, of course). We...

Re: Need screw in fitting for water heater hose, dr. side

What is your argument against brass? I've got two brass fittings on my truck.

Rather than use wax, why not use something like RainX that's designed for glass?

Re: Need screw in fitting for water heater hose, dr. side

Pipe sizes are inside diameter. I'd guess it would be 1/2 pipe thread, for a 5/8" hose barb, which seems a bit big for a little 1.9L engine, to me. 1/2" thread is what the V8's use for both the...

Re: STANT 14279 theromostat problem

I should get one of those tools. I used a small flat blade or Harbor Freight pick and patience, when I removed them from the wheel well.

The single piece push pin type on my truck... I've been...

Re: idle is low for first second at startup?

Thanks for the explanation. I do have the TPS issue you mention, but had no idea how that worked.

Maybe I can get away with just cleaning the IAC, as it does not happen every startup... more when...

Re: Attention northerners....Winter wiper blade reccomendation?

I never thought about that. I didn't know windshields could be damaged that way until I read it in this forum. I don't think the wiper arms stand up on the Saturn as well as they do on my truck.
