Re: Math Q: Cheap Expensive Oil

Re: Motorweek 1993 SW2 Retro Review

Now I want to drive mine on that course. :)

Do the 1st gen sw's have a polymer roof? I'm pretty sure my 96 roof is metal.

Re: Straight Up Bragging Rights

I think there are 2 contests going in this thread.

I've owned 1 Saturn. The 96 SW2. I will have owned it 24 years in February. :)

Re: S-Series Mileage Milestones 100k 150k 200k 250k and beyond

Congrats!! Your low oil use is great. It's certainly a testament for regular oil changes on our Saturns. What kind of oil are you using?

My 96 is about to turn 110k miles.

Re: Don't you hate aluminum wheels?

Every time I remove one of the plastic hub caps on my steel wheels, I'm amazed they haven't fallen off and gotten lost at some point during the past 24 years.

Re: My experience with Motor Oils and my Saturn

Your car is still a low mileage car. I don't see a need for anything heaver than 5w-30 motor oil unless a previous owner didn't keep up with oil changes. My car is almost 24 years old with 110k...

Re: Speakers...

I put 2-way Pioneer (TS-G1644R) speakers in the front about 5 years ago. They've held up good. I have the original radio and tape player. The speakers alone improved the sound quite a bit over the...

Re: How can 2019 cars be as good as my SW2?

I wonder the same thing occasionally too. My 96 SW2 was a tad over $17k out the door.

I like the small wagon for practicality. That narrows down choices in new cars a lot. I like the manual...

Re: Anyone know of an idiot proof guide on how to replace a 99 SL1 sway bar?

I used a come-along and some chain to pull the ends of the bar together a bit to get it to line up with the bushings in the lower control arm. I didn't have to separate the ball joint, etc as in...

Here's a RichPin video on replacing the front stabilizer bar on an SL2:

Re: Does TranSynd improve M/T shift smoothness?

I'm using Amsoil Torque Drive in the transmission and power steering. Shifting is noticeably improved over Mobile One ATF. Also, the power steering pump had a whine which has quieted down.

On...

Re: Does TranSynd improve M/T shift smoothness?

Oh boy. I've known for a lot of years (maybe even 23) that it's a little flaky shifting into first sometimes but didn't know about this blocking. :)

Re: UNL88: anyone use it? Pro/con

I switched from 86 octane E10 to 86 octane E0 several years ago. My gas mileage went from 32 mpg to 34 mpg, an improvement of about 6% also, the car runs better and has a little more power. Now I'm...

Re: Those small coolant hoses

Thanks for your post. I've had the new hoses sitting in a box for a while but haven't gotten around to putting them on. I did work on the hose in back of the engine for a while and then left it on....

Re: How to tell that you own a Saturn S

When a friend accidentally backs into your front fender with his pickup truck, shaking the whole car and when you look at it there's virtually no damage. Then you say, don't worry about it this is...

Re: Anti-sway bar snapping noise

I emailed ProForged to ask if their Saturn front anti-sway bar is solid.

Here is their reply:

I'm happy to hear that you're pleased with the sway bar!
The bar is solid, as we've found...

Re: Switch from 5w30 to 10w30?

How about 0w30? I've been using it for 4 years with no noticeable change in oil consumption compared to the 5w30 I used previously.

Re: Anti-sway bar snapping noise

My clunk would occur: after braking down our driveway (it's downhill), I'd stop at the end and then turn left and accelerate slowly up an incline. The snap/clunk would regularly occur while going...

Re: Anti-sway bar snapping noise

Thanks for the picture. Did your bar actually separate while on the car? Another post here (I believe it was by Oldnuc) said that if it does, you end up with a lot of damage. That's one reason I...

Anti-sway bar snapping noise

I put a new Proforged anti-sway bar in over the weekend to get rid of snapping noises in the front end. The new bar accomplished that. So now I have the old bar out and don't see anything wrong...

Re: New brakes squeal

I have the same problem. It brakes ok but is noisy on turns. The sheet metal hardware doesn't fit the old caliper properly. I put up with it for a while and it hasn't improved any. So, I ordered...

Re: An SC driver in Raleigh, NC likes to haul ass!

My SW2 is turning about 3k RPM at 70 mph. The speed limiter is 108 mph so the rpm at 108 should be about 4500. At 124 mph, an SC should be about 5300 rpm. (I think the SW2 and SC2 are geared about...
