Re: need opinions on '94 A/C

An update/bump:

No sign of leak (UV inspection for dye) at the X block on firewall or at drier behind LF fender.

I pulled a vacuum, it dropped from 29+" Hg to 27.5" in 36 hours. This was on a...

Re: How to Test Coils?

I would use SMP (Standard Motor Products), but many here prefer getting used from a JY over anything new.

I wouldn't rush into changing the coils. Simple coils like those are very rugged,...

Re: 2002 sc2 leaking automatic transmission

Personally, I wouldn't weld the diff pin; I would put in the bigger spiral type spring pin. However, I can believe welding the diff pin can work in most (all?) failures of this type.

The welding...

Re: Steering Problems After Near Head On Collision

I doubt it is only going to need a "simple" alignment. It is likely that something has been bent or broken and needs to be repaired before an alignment can be successfully done.

Re: 2002 sc2 leaking automatic transmission

I sounds like it could be the "diff pin" has come loose; search on this forum and you will find many threads relating to that pin. It is a near-fatal condition for the trans, you will need ...

Re: Help Figure Out if Bad Head Gasket

180 psi is the official minimum, but most will be in the 200-220 range, even after 200K miles. Pay attention, too, to the difference between cylinders. Something like 210-210-180-210 would be above...

Re: How to Test Coils?

Sure, the ignition coils could be tested; the ICM under them would be tougher to do. But why bother with any of that until the plugs have been pulled for checking/cleaning and compression has been...

need opinions on '94 A/C

Yes, I'm looking for opinions, and understand that there may be ones that differ widely. My intent is to review them without argument, then make the decision I feel is best for me.

This is a '94...

Re: New Clutch grinding

Pull the slave out and peek in there with a mirror or camera. You may get some clues, but I suspect the bell-housing is going to have to come off before you are done here; like it or not...

Re: Bonding fenders

Use Vinyl Ester resin. It is more expensive than Polyester, but is just as easy to mix and use, has better flex, higher temp limit; and can be used with glass, Kevlar, or carbon.

I used to think...

Re: Saturn SL2 help needed

Well, I'm thinking the fuel pump is going bad. Don't just rush to throw a new one at it though, check pressure with a gauge. Even if you have to buy a gauge to have it handy as the problem pops up,...

Re: Fuel Line Repair

Yes, push them on as far as they will go. Warm the lines up with a heat-gun or hair-drier or by dipping the ends in water that has recently been boiled.

Re: Help Figure Out if Bad Head Gasket

Have you taken compression readings yet? Generally, oil on the top side of the plug threads can't get down into the combustion chamber. That liquid oil is probably just flowing down as you remove...

Re: Does my 2000 SW2 have ABS

Have you checked to see if the brake push-rod is still connected to the pedal lever/arm? It is hard to imagine there is a big leak if the MC is staying full, but have you checked all over for leaks...

Re: Does my 2000 SW2 have ABS

Yes, you can tell by looking, and that "silver box behind the battery" is a pretty good description of an ABS module. I don't have a picture handy, but somebody else will point you to one if there...

Re: Clutch Slave Cylinder Problems.

There is a variant to that cartoon: the guy is correctly yanking on the handle with both hands, but has one foot up planted in the middle of the door to brace himself as he pulls.

Re: sc2 wont start, how to jump starter from relay?

Use a voltmeter to avoid a whole lot of guessing and parts-swapping.

Smoke from an electrical system is a strong hint of problems beyond just a bad relay or starter.

Re: '95 SL2 needs saving

I'm begging now. I really don't want to see this good-running car get scrapped. Convince me it is "going to a good home" and make an offer; I'll go pretty low.

Re: Overheated & STOPPED !

Try rotating the crank by hand, to be sure it hasn't seized from the over-heat. That is not a likely problem, but it is very easy to try rotating the engine; no use throwing a new radiator at it if...

Re: SL1 TAAT transmission mystery

Where did you get the VB from?

Go back to the beginning and use live-data to avoid most of this guessing. Also, connect a gauge to observe line-pressure.

The next time you have the VB off, do...

Re: 1996 sl2 - 2 New exhaust replacements and both have flange the wrong rotation

I would be wary of trying from another vendor and hoping for a perfect fit. I have three nearly-identical DOHC engines ('94, '95, and '97 in '95 car) and the clocking of that flange needs to be...

'95 SL2 needs saving

This is to bring attention to my recent post in the "Classifieds".

I live in NorCal, and as I get ready to "thin out my herd" CA will give me $1000 to have it scrapped. I don't really want to see...

Re: Automatic transmission on the fritz when warm

Is this car new to you, or is this a new problem? Post the actual code numbers.

If the car is new to you, check the S/N on the trans, let's make sure it is the correct version for your...
