Re: Saying good bye to my Saturn

+3 to saving that can do a subframe swap in a weekend if you have the tools, and maybe some help.

At the very least, find a similar car and swap out everything to the "new" one, then...

Re: 97 Saturn SL2 reverse when engine is warm

I did this on my old 94 SL1, worked great for me. I used the Prolong trans additive when I did my reverse cure. I miss that car.

Change the oil/filter every 3k-5k, and keep it topped off between changes, and...

Re: AC/Heater blower intermittent

I would check connections(in particular the ground) at the motor as well as the fuseblock first. Then I would check the blower resistor then the blower itself.

Re: '96 SL2 Refurb

Id change the coolant, oil/filter, tranny fluid/filter, power steering fluid and drive it. Couldnt hurt to siphon out the brake fluid, just to start fresh.

Re: What should I do with my engine?

Id look for a little better one and use your wagon for a parts car.
If its burning that much oil, its rebuild time.

Re: wipers from hell

Check battery cables, particularly the negative one.
Check connections at the wiper motor, and make sure the bolts are tight.

My grandpa had a late 80s Caprice with the same symptoms(was loose...

Re: Maintenance advice 99 SL2

Plugs and wires are a piece of cake on an SL2. If you do them yourself, make sure your coil connections and towers are clean and bright. Use some dielectric grease on the connections, too.

Re: How to disassemble and lube the blower motor?

If nothing's stuck in there, replace it with a junkyard blower motor. Then enjoy the quiet.

Re: SYnthetic and regular oil mixable?

Mix away. It won't harm anything, but there is no benefit to it other than getting rid of "orphan" quarts. I do it all the time.

Re: Frame mount rusted

If yours is too rusty to fix, consider buying another one, and swap out parts as you see fit, then junk what's left. Finding another SL shouldnt be too tough.

Re: Is this a good buy to fix up?

Couldnt hurt to pull the plugs.

Worn plugs??? Lack of maintenance.
Plugs that are black, smell like gas?? Misfires.
Oily plugs??? Leaky valve seals, blow-by, or clogged PCV valve.

If you see...

Re: sl1

Ok, time for a double check on what youre working on.

If you have spark all the way to the engine, and you have fuel getting to the injectors, youre good. Couldnt hurt to double check fuel...

Ive used just about every brand of oil I...

Thats pretty funky..........

Has the weather been wet there recently??? I had a '83 F-150 that would do that when the weather was wet. I just pulled the horn fuse, and life went on.
