Re: Driving long term on "bad" thermostat - temp sitting around 1/4 mark

Not only mileage but the cool temps cause the oil to sludge badly and moisture to collect causing acids to build up not to mention the excess fuel washing down the cylinders will cause excessive wear...

Re: 31 psi FRONT, 28 psi REAR

Re: 31 psi FRONT, 28 psi REAR

NEVER I repeat NEVER have had a tire issue either with wear pattern, handling, ride quality, NOTHING by using at or VERY close to mfg spec inflation. Many times in winter I will increase pressure all...

Re: Debris in oilpan. What is it?

Perhaps the engine had a catastrophic chain failure and or water pump) and no one went in and cleaned it out after a repair or perhaps you have WAY more trouble than you thought

Re: The 98 SW2 is Totaled

I thought about doing that when my 99 SL2 was wrecked and totaled last fall. But I knew given the age these cars are approaching and being in the rust belt I would most likely never own another one...

Re: Timing belt

If the engine is well cared for and there are no weird drives off the chain (i.e. early EcoTec 4 cylinders used the timing chain on the water pump) it should last the same as the engine itself. At...

Re: 2008 Vue XE questions. 2.4 auto.

The 2.4 EcoTec IIRC is an updated version of the 2.2. The 2.4 should have an external accessory belt driven water pump and be far more reliable than the chain driven one on the 2.2. which seemed to...

Re: Thermostat Issue?

Simon first off there are some things you should ignore because they're REALLY bad advice. Prime is this. DO NOT LET THE CAR SIT AND IDLE to warm up. Waste of fuel, causes raw fuel to wash oil off...

Re: Looking to buy a Vue

1) timing belt typically gets replaced at 100k .. so you still have another year or two so of driving before it's due.. but don't wait too long!!! Water pump is cheap once they're in there.. so it's...

New ones are so cheap why would you even bother?

Re: Looking to buy a Vue

Well it all kinda depends.
How much is he asking for from you?

Now on to the "problems?"

Does the AC work ok now? If so ignore the recommendation but know that the Vues in that generation...

Re: Suggestions on Oil

My experience with having owned 3 Saturn SL2's is for the first 1000 miles or so past an oil change little to no change, after first 1000 they typically would use about 1/2 qt in pretty rapid order,...

Re: 2006 Saturn Vue is no more

Odds are that engine was damaged when the timing chain issue came up. It is a very bad weak point on the EcoTec with the chain driven water pump. IMO if that engine was a timing belt engine instead...

Re: 2003 Saturn VUE

If it has ABS there may be another procedure (though I am not sure). On some vehicles you need to activate the ABS pump with a scan tool

Re: 31 psi FRONT, 28 psi REAR

I have ALWAYS stuck with OEM recommended pressures no matter what the sidewall says. Remember the sidewall is only giving you the MAXIMUM limits which mean nothing in day to day driving unless you're...

Remote Key FOBs

Does anyone know if there is a difference in key fobs between 2nd gen and 3rd gen "S" series Saturns? My daughter was cleaning out her room and found a key fob that I know for sure is either from the...

Re: School me on airbags

I am not aware of expiration of them however if you watch/listen/read the news you should be aware of Takata and their issues. Apparently the Takata issue is doe to oxidation (from age and moisture)...

Re: I new a new car, something like a SL

Not sure your fascination with those cars but sadly they are pretty much turds in the pool. But hey to each their own I guess. Better those than a Ford, or a Chrysler "Cloud car" (Cirrus, Nimbus or...

Re: 19999 SW1 temp gauge behaving oddly after radiator replacement

First and foremost pressure test the cooling system. If you don't you're just pi$$ing into the wind. Once you affirm the system can hold pressure buy a new pressure cap for the coolant tank. Cheap...

Re: I new a new car, something like a SL

Get a Corolla or a Civic or a late 90's to early 2000's Camry or Accord. Don't waste your time and money otherwise. These cars are dependable (as much or more so than any Saturn), cheap and...

Re: What year and engine to purchase?

For the record the Equinox is not the same as an 08 and up Vue. In 08 the Vue was actually the Opel Antara. (which after Saturn went bye bye) became the Chevy Captiva (which as I understand was only...
