Looking for a gen 2 armrest

Does anyone know where I could find one of these things? I've been searching online for about a month now and haven't had much luck. Ebay only ever seems to have gen 3 armrests that would require a bit of work to fit in a gen 2 that I don't really care for doing. Local junkyards never seem to have one either. Anyone have any ideas where i could find one? Or has one they's be willing to sell me?

Would this be the drivers door armrest you need?
Color preference?

Have you tried?

Does he mean the flip-top lock-box arm rest located between the front seats?
If it's the one built into the door...I'm due for a local salvage yard run just to see what's there

^^ Very good point.....I might have presumed way too much.:)
Even so, the source I gave will surely have both.

The flip one that goes in between the seats. Never thought of the one on the door as one but I guess it is too

So that website doesn't really seem to work anymore. I'm not able to submit a part request.

You pretty much have to call any yard that's old enough to have Saturns in it, doubtful they have the techies to properly run any kind of website...lol

Car-Part.com is a great place to find nearby junkyards, search for something that sell for $$$ (ex: transmissions/engines) and that'll show you yards with at least parts, then call those to see if they just have parts or the whole car and if the have the car, either ask if they have the part you actually want or if they don't know ask if you can wander the yard yourself :)

The phone # 888-899-0907 still works, even if the website did not work.

If you are considering the door armrest, research the part number and try Vintage Parts. They could have a lot of N.O.S., but I am not really sure how to find out. It's not cheap, but it's new.

Just go find the screw cover, from an SC1/SL1 model and put over the screws. If you find one of these console assemblies(which are discontinued by GM), and it still works, you had better play the lottery because if not, you will probably get struck by lightning if you don't......

Every last one of these assemblies have broken, by now. The latch was the problem with them.

If you don't find a center arm rest for the OP, let me know.

I think I might have one (or two) in the garage, not sure off hand if it is 2nd or 3rd gen, but I am likely to be slow remembering to look for it, and shipping it. If I have one, it will be the dark charcoal color. Not sure if OP needed tan or gray
Also, I really need to clean my garage out. :)

Re: Looking for a gen 2 armrest

Soooooo I just bought one off of a junkyard in Colorado. Who knows if the latch will be broken or not but it wasn't very expensive so it wouldn't be that much of a loss if it is. Thanks for recommending car-part.com, fetchitfido. I was actually already using is but once I started looking for something that junkyards will probably actually inventory like engines per your recommendation, I found lots of Saturns. Then i just had to look through ones that had pics, see if it had the armrest, and give them a call if it did. Took a few tries to find one that still had it.

Sad thing is I held onto a tan one for 6-7 years, threw it out within the last 2 months because of moving and major downsizing (my new amazing apartment would fit entirely inside my "old" living room )

If it is broken, it can be repaired:

So a week later I get this in the mail and it's literally just this. What the hell brush auto, what am I supposed to do with this? Well, anyway. Back to square 1 I guess.

Hey Saturninin? Do you have a black gen 2 you'd be willing to sell me?

Ouch. Looks like you got a first gen armrest.

1995-1999 is second Gen, BUT some early SLs have the first gen interior for the 1995 model year.

If it has an 8-digit part number on the underside, you can use this website for identifying it:

www.wholesalegmpartsonline.com

Once you identified it, you can put it up for a price on eBay or Amazon.

Hollander(the interchange system that car-part uses) doesn't have interchange information for armrests amd center consoles, due to the lack of sales on most of these items & the so many different trims that one model can have.

I always hated that part of Hollander, but their system uses (A)/(B)/etc for each different(but interchangeable part).

Example: First-Gen Saturn alternators.

Hollander part number 600-xxx(the "x" are for individual models, and 600 is for "Alternator" in its system).

The 90-amp has the same part number, and is designated "A"(600-xxxA), and the 96-amp is (600-xxxB). Which will have interchange notes like this: "A & B Interchange. Difference is amperage." The Hollander interchange notes are what the yard owners see, when they search their inventory for you specific part. So, try to understand the yards are not 100% at fault, for this specific error.

For interior parts, there would be more money spent on classifying the different trims, and so many, that they see no cost-effective means of adding them to their systems. Basically, most trims are inventoried under a generic GM body code.

The yard still should have done a better job, at making sure they had the correct part, before they shipped it.

You can try to return it, but since they paid to ship it, it isn't likely they will let you return it. Call them and politely let them know you received an incorrect part.
Ouch. Looks like you got a first gen armrest.
Its not that its first gen, it is a second gen one (You can tell by looking at the back being shorter than the front), It's that I only got the cover to the armrest box. Which is pretty useless to me.
