Flashback Friday: 2003-07 Saturn Ion

A new feeditems entry has been added:

[drupal=2815]Flashback Friday: 2003-07 Saturn Ion[/drupal]
From the Windsor Star: The Ion replaced the four-door SL and two-door SC coupe models as the cornerstone of the Saturn small-car lineup. Both the Ion sedan and Quad Coupe, so called because it came with small, clamshell-style rear openings, used plastic body panels to fend off dings and dents.
This was a very fair and objective review of the ION. It's too bad that there were not more of these when the car was being produced.

Saturn should have stayed with them and gave them a redesign. At least it would have been more successful than the astra.

Yeah, most reviews were horrible. It didn't help that they tended to review the car at its beginning in 2003 then didn't revisit the car 2 years later when most of the problems were solved (steering wheel, better radio, better insulation from noise, better seats, etc...).

Though I remember a car reviewer that thoroughly blasted the car when it was released. He was horrified when his daughter then chose it as a loaner, but at the end of the loan, he made a summary of the 4 years with the car. He said that it had been "exemplary", that the engine was a lot more silent than he thought, that he wouldn't hesitate to sell it to someone he knew and asked if anyone wanted an "excellent used Ion that has proven its worth". He also said that he has learned a lot about the bias of his fellow car reviewers based on what they said on this car.

If you want to read it, go to http://blogues.cyberpresse.ca/monvolant/descarries/?m=20070731 , however, it's in French.

SIVAL -

I remember reading those articles. Personally, GM made another BIG MISTAKE when they dropped the ION for the ASTRA. Needing a new small car today, I would purchase an ION in a heartbeat, and would not consider the ASTRA. YEA, Bring back the Plastic Saturn!!! My mom's 2003 ION 3 has been great for her (4 Saturns have been bought in our family and they have all been great cars!)

You guys are nuts!! I have owned both and the Ion isn't even in the same league as the Astra... Hell the S series was a better car than the Ion.. I think the Ion did more damage to Saturn than the Astra ever did.. But thats my 2 cents..
