row 52 finds

since im a member of row 52, I get emails & text alerts about newly yarded vehicles that fit my search criteria. currently my search criteria is set @ year or model s-series within 50 miles of Attleboro, ma. that is 3 salvage yards that fall in that proximity of me that use row 52. I thought might help somebody else. if you would like to join row 52 yourself, just go to:
www.row52.com & join, its free. they currently doing 70 yards across the u.s. & adding more all the time. if anybody else also uses this, you can also add yours hits/finds here.

here's the one I got today:
mars2878,

Very cool site, thanks!

Only one yard within reasonable driving distance from me is Weller Auto in Grand Rapids, MI (prolly an hour from me), but at least I can check what they have before driving up there.

Re: row 52 finds

Hey that's cool..... And I didn't realize there were pick and pulls in Millis and Freetown. That's cool too! :D

Do you know if you can add models? I have an SW2, though most of the parts I'm interested in are across the S-series line... I was wondering if you could specify, SC, SL, SW or something like that.

-- Never mind, I just saved my search as -91-02 Saturn without specifying the model. That's mostly S-series cars with a smattering of L-series.

Re: row 52 finds

yes, u can save separate searches for sl,sc,sw. just not 1 vs. 2 models.
im in talks w/ them to somehow separate the 2 models in the searches, along w/a few other enhancements.
but as long as there is a pic attached to the vehicle & the car was not modified, we can tell 1 from 2 in the pic.

I think fresh meat when my phone goes off.
my searches are set up for: 2 s-series cars, 2 n-body cars & 9 s-series trucks. thats just for me, to cover 2 vehicles that I own. currently still don't own a Saturn yet, but still looking just not rushing.

the millis yard is formally millis used auto parts.
the freetown yard is formally self serve auto parts.
the Cumberland yard is formally bills auto parts (they were bought out right after their 80th anniversary from the original family, original owner died in '86).
they are currently working on building a fresh from the ground up yard in Johnston,ri.

Re: row 52 finds

oh & on side note, just in case ya'll didn't know. the mass yards also sell cars.
I usually don't see them under $999.

Re: row 52 finds

For now, I just have Saturn 91-02 (I do have an L-series also -- perhaps I can add L series searches until 05 when I get around to it).

As cool as it is to know of "fresh meat," the flip side is that it's sad to see a new S or L series car is being junked daily (I got one new S yesterday and an L today).

Re: row 52 finds

I'm guessing not too many places are part of that site as 50 mi from me gets the same places. I'm sure there are s series more local.

Re: row 52 finds

row 52 is owned by picknpull, which in turn is owned by schnitzer steel.
so it only covers the picknpull yards.

this past week the freetown yard crushed:
a 1st gen sl1 - wailed hard in the nose.
a mint 2nd gen sl1 - no keys & only a bill of sale, so I couldn't put it out for sale.
those 2 never made it to the self serve yard.

they also crushed:
a 1st gen sc2 & a 2nd gen sl1, both came from the self serve yard & were replaced with fresh meat.

getting crushed next week, there will be a t-boned 2nd gen sl1, a 3rd gen sl1 & a 3rd gen sl2. both 3rd gens were hit in the nose.

I wish more yards got in on stuff like row 52, but they don't, @ least not yet.

using this sure beats randomly calling or visiting to find out about new meat status. now you can just adjust your schedule around new arrivals that meet your needs.

Hey, I was just there last Sunday! They didn't have what I needed, so I went to the one in RI. Needed a rear bumper. (The black plastic piece.) Couldn't get one off their 2001 silver SC2 because the bolt were rusted, so I pulled one off a 99 SC2. Looks like it will fit. (I hope.)

Re: row 52 finds

hopefully it'll work out for you.

that's one of the best part of these yards. you pay the $2 admission @ one yard, get your hand stamped, come & go all day @ all of their yards.
Hey, I was just there last Sunday!
Any leather interiors? Gotta check that place out.

Also, for those of us in MA/CT/RI, Leveilles Auto Recyclers in Somers, CT regularly lists Saturns they get in stock on CL under "auto parts - by dealer". They have an SC with what looks like decent rotini seats.

(Legal disclaimer: I have no affiliation with them, never even been there.)

A friend of mine who's really VWs has mentioned a couple of places in Western CT that still allow you to go in and grab stuff off the cars, said they have a bunch of Saturns... I'll try to get info.

Re: row 52 finds

unless breaking down the vin tells you it has leather or cloth seats (provided they have not been swapped out). the only way to know if they have it will be for someone to visually check & inform everybody else. I can say as of today, none of the s-series in freetown have leather. I was there.

Re: row 52 finds

Nope, the VIN won't tell... but thanks for the heads-up on the interiors. It would be nice if they had interior and engine compartment shots as well. I'm just going to have to start visiting these places.

Re: row 52 finds

yeah, sorry, just the one pic. sometimes the pic is posted same day, other times a day or 2 later. the photographer has a route of several yards & goes around taking the pics. 1 pic is better than none. at least you'll get a better idea of the color & exterior condition @ arrival-ish. when entered in the system, the exact color is not choosable. red, maroon, burgundy = red. beige, gold, tan = gold & so forth. this at least makes it a little easier when a vehicle is available in multiple color shades of the same family. it also makes it a little easier on the shot in the dark visits with hopes of correct color or good panels. most of the time, calling the yard will not net you an exact color.
