Stuck in reverse

I put car in reverse, and it would not shift into any other gear. I had to leave it on n reverse with the emergency brake engaged. I have researched enough to know that is either 1) the transmission shifter cable, or 2) the transmission shifter solenoid. I am having trouble finding parts, or diagrams of where the parts are on car, and how to do the repairs. Can anyone help?
Thanks.

Re: Stuck in reverse

Some car info is needed. Are you driving a Lamborghini, Tesla, Land Rover, Jaguar? Engine size? Year, model? Mileage, maintenance done, parts replaced?

Is the battery dead? Tried a battery boost to see if battery or alternator died, preventing shifting out of reverse? If this is a mechanical failure, the shift linkages may be the issue. Without car info, its anyone's guess.

Re: Stuck in reverse

Need more info for sure. Is the shift lever able to move out of reverse? The shifter cable connects to the top of the transmission just to the right of the motor. If the shift lever moves, but doesn't come out of reverse I would start with the cable. If the shift lever won't move out of reverse I would start with the shifter area. Use the little tab to manually bypass the shifter lock.
