Highmile Milestone 700k

1 Attachment(s)
Never had a doubt that I'd get here but I think about all the places this little car has taken me and it's staggering.

The last 100k have been pretty uneventful all in all. I did rebuild the entire brake system replacing the oem calipers, brake hoses, master cylinder, etc. I wasn't having any issues just thought it would a good preventive measure. After a while the rotors warped (again) and after someone I know had really good luck with a $50 set of drilled and slotted rotors off ebay I jumped in and took a chance. For being made in china I've actually been pretty happy with them.

I did have one issue this fall when I took it in for it's semi annual safety inspection. I had a tie rod that was WAY loose and somehow never noticed it. So 2 new Moog ends and we were back on the road.

Replaced the windshield too for the second time. Like the last one it was getting way sand blasted and then it had a couple of pillar to pillar cracks that wouldn't pass inspection.

The motor that I built at 416k is still running very well. Goes 5k between oil changes and uses about a pint. I run the wix 51516 filter and plain ol valvoline 5w-30.

I had planned to try to get pictures of the odometer as it rolled but I was on the interstate and traffic was unusually heavy. So you get one from when I stopped in town.

Cool!

I use Hastings rings - but it will probably take me 200 years to get that many miles.

Good to know they hold up.

The really fun part?

Trying to keep a straight face when you sell it with "only" 40,000 on the odometer....

Absolutely amazing! Congratulations!
Weíre on the other end of the mileage spectrum.
We have a 2000 SW2 that we bought last November with 44,000 miles.
Itís like getting a second chance to buy a new Saturn! Our second Saturn.

Congratulations! You should get a shout-out from Willard Scott on the Today Show, like he would do for those 100 year olds. I'm only about 536,000 miles behind at this point.

Have you ever had to rebuild the odometer gears?

No, the Odometer gear issues seemed to end after the 94 model year. I did replace one in my daughters car many years ago but never had an issue with mine.

Re: Highmile Milestone 700k

Thanks all...

I really don't know if I'll make the 1 million mile mark or not. I add right at 30k/yr so 10yrs of driving to get to 1 million. I'm hoping to retire a couple of years before that. Mrs Highmile has made me promise that when I do retire so does my car... We'll see :)

Re: Highmile Milestone 700k

I once had a 800 0000 kms Corolla, and let's say it was not "uneventful". My SL2 is brand new at around 190 000 miles. I'm glad to know it will run way longer than me and will continue to be reliable!

Congrats for the achievement!
