Saturn l200 p0300
Okay so I started getting a strong rattle in my engine last week. When you open it up, or at highway speeds the car sounds and feels okay, in drive but stopped it is bad rattles the whole car and sounds horrible, and when I run the ac it is worse, the car is 2002 has 177,xxx miles, parts I have JUST changed are spark plugs and boots, tried a new ignition control module but if anything it got worse after that, so put the old one back on please help!!

With only ignition parts replaced in 177k miles, many parts are worn out; motor mounts, shocks, tie-rods, suspension bushings, etc.. Engine rattling can usually be narrowed down to two areas, top motor mount on the passenger side and a very worn out belt tensioner hitting its own end stop. The serpentine belt can be removed and engine started/run for a minute to listen for noise elimination or simply examining the belt for easy deflection with your fingers. Easy deflection with fingers means the tensioner spring is worn out. Replace it. If a pen can fit into the top engine mount recesses then its worn out and needs to be replaced.

Hard shifting and loss of power may be a clogged catalytic converter, easily tested by removing the front O2 sensor to allow an alternate exhaust path - power returning immediately indicates a plugged/disintegrating catcon. Banging the catcon to test for loose catguts may help.

Re: Saturn l200 p0300
Well, misfiring contributing to rattling may be a low compression issue. Try a compression test, dry then wet and post numbers. Very low compression below 160 psi (minimum is 180 for rebuilding) may suggest a well worn engine.

Re: Saturn l200 p0300
Okay so did some work on it this weekend, pulled the icm replaced with new no change, removed heat shield and look at exhost temps with laser and far passenger side is really low temp 165 compared to others at 300+ pulled the newly replaced plugs out and all clean except far passenger side is black, thought it may be an injector issue cleaned all injectors and swapped far passenger side for a different one put back together no change going to to a spark test grounded on engine in a moment any other suggestions anyone?
