The first time ever I bought a car off eBay. They had a SC2 no power locks or windows auto AC and Heat work 164,945 miles. (Car is from a car dealer)
They say it slips some in reverse but all forward gears are good. They say it runs good.

I got it for $719 and I pick it up tomorrow it is about 2 hours from me. It had 18 pictures.
My other son and I will be working on it over the winter.

Very nice! I like my '99. I'd buy those connecting rod bolts though, if you plan a rebuild someday.

Re: I bought a 99 SC2 slowly bring it back to life.

I think we will rebuild the motor over the winter. My son just turns 15 in beginning of Nov so we have time to work on it.

I want him to have sweat equity in his car. hopefully he will learn some on how to work on cars. I like to see him take to it but you never know.

I will have to look over your rebuild post closer now that I have a 99. Where did you get the connecting rod bolts?

From my thread:

Has the p/n, dealer, and website.

Totally parallel lives. My two kids are clearly both mine but also very different.

I picked up the car today. I picked it up on my trailer.

The clear coat was in pretty good shape except the spooler.

Are these factory fog lights?

This is how the side mirrors are put on does it get a trim ring?

I had to use a jump box but it started right up and drove pretty tight. The oil looked clean and the coolant looked clean.

Reverse was very bad and second gear has issues. It had code P0732 Gear 2 incorrect Ratio

My foglights look the same.

I believe the mirror situation is a hack job repair. It should look like this photo

Re: I bought a 99 SC2 slowly bring it back to life.

Thanks for the photo I was wondering if it was a hack job. Both mirrors are like that.
I might just paint the screws flat black so they are not as noticeable.

I have been searching on the no reverse issue with a second gear issue and code P0732 Gear 2 incorrect Ratio.

It looks like some have fixed it with a new valve body and maybe a loose input nut. Does sound right.

Re: I bought a 99 SC2 slowly bring it back to life.

Valve body from Central Valve bodies with all Sonnex mods and redo input nut torque. The mirrors are both survivors from being broken off and the fog lights are OEM. The electrical fog light control will not survive installing higher wattage bulbs than the stock 880s. There are replacement fog lights but they are expensive and installation is a major job if you want a similar look.

Re: I bought a 99 SC2 slowly bring it back to life.

Where can I get new input nut order Chevy dealer?
Do I need special tool to hold it to tighten it or is there other way to do in. I have a good impact driver.
There are some good post on this but all the photos are gone.

Re: I bought a 99 SC2 slowly bring it back to life.

The nut must be hand torqued and a special socket is required. Also a drum holding fixture or you bend the clutch drum as the torque is 111ft-lb. New nut is made of unobtainilum. 3M T-71 might be adequate to lock it down IF the shaft and old nut are chemically clean and primer is used.

Socket info & holding tool, strap wrench bends the drum.

Here are some skinny sockets with OD specs. Need socket end OD of 1.200" (30.48mm) or smaller.
* Snap-On FM23, 3/8" drive 23mm 12-pt std: 29.9mm
* NAPA 23mm 12-pt thin-wall, special order: sorry no part#
* Armstrong 3/8" drive 23mm 12-pt, std #38-123: 30.2mm
* Armstrong 3/8" drive 23mm 12-pt deep, #38-323: 30.2mm
* Armstrong 1/2" drive 23mm 12-pt deep, #39-323: 30.2mm
* NOT Snap-on 1/2" drive 23mm 12-pt #SWM231: 31.2mm
* NOT Armstrong 1/2" drive 23mm std #39-123: 30.9mm
Snap-on FM23 or NAPA is the 23mm thin wall socket winner.

Great looking car, esp at that price.

I have a set of LED fogs I plan on using on my '97, whenever I get around to working on it in the far future. :) No idea if they are any good or not

Re: I bought a 99 SC2 slowly bring it back to life.

I posted a WTB for the “Transmission Input Shaft Nut Special clutch holding tool” since it is a onetime use tool maybe some wants to sell one they used and no longer are using.

Use search as I think there is a recent post where someone wanted to sell one.

I searched but could not find who is trying to sell one.

We put the car up on jack stands. I need to get my car lift fixed!
Very pleased with how it looked.

The hard brake lines look great no rust.
The front brakes look good and the calipers look good. I still need to check out the back brakes.
We will drain the brake fluid and flush with new fluid.
I was getting a knock sensor code it was easy to see why the wire was broken off. There was another sensor wire broken off maybe oil pressure sensor.

It has a new alternator and it looked like some dropped it on the sensor wires putting it in and broke two of the wires.

This is the guy who makes the tool. He may have a few of the nuts as well. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Clutch-holding-tool-for-tightening-input-nut/141441488568?fits=Make%3ASaturn&hash=item20ee91d6b8:g:OfUAAOSwFAZTvyNm&vxp=mtr

Could not find a for sale post.

Amazing (to me) how little rust there is . . . I'm probably going to buy one more Saturn coupe, from the South, in the future

Here are the brake lines.

I pulled the wheels off the back of the car brakes and drums look good. I pulled back a boot on the wheel cylinders. There was fluid behind it so I will get new wheel cylinders on order.

I ordered new motor mounts and trans mount and dog bone rebuild kits.

Wow, that is in amazing condition. I wish my brake lines and underbody looked like that.
