ION vs. 6400lb full size truck

this effing sucks, yesterday this jackass in a silverado ran a redlight yesterday and hit my car square in the passenger side wheel well, it collapsed my suspension and CV shaft, messed up the rim and cracked the bumper. but wait, because we have a special today, with your order of pain and anguish comes frustration at no extra cost, GMAC insurance told me they didn't cover towing (BS, I just signed up with them the day before), so I had to get onstar there, so I pushed the nifty little red emergency button in dire need of help (my car was immovable in the middle of a busy intersection in a snow storm) I told them this, and they assured me (very close to assumed, and I now believe that saying applies to both words) that help would arrive soon, an hour later the tow truck arrived and the driver said that onstar didn't relay the fact that this was an urgent situation. Then last night, my insurance calls me and when I tell them where my car is headed to (3.5 hours away, the closest saturn dealership) they asked me why I was towing it so far away, when I told them, they told me that local towing is certainly covered, and asked why I wasn't getting it towed locally through them. I talked to roadside assistance and they then finally "corrected" the situation and now today it's on it's way to a local body shop. for the mean time I'm stuck in a slowbalt with a slushbox, not happy about that, but it was between that and a ****us, so I'll take the one with comparable gas milage. I'll post pics when they come in. in the mean time, I'm after three heads, the guy who hit me for the deductable, the person at onstar, and the person at my insurance company.

yeah, one of the semis coming through the intersection could've creamed my car when I was sitting there for an hour.

look left right left before pulling out. if there's no frame damage, i can't see that being $2000 of work. any paint / body damage on the fender?

glad you are ok, b/t/w, :)

Re: ION vs. 6400lb full size truck

I waited 3-5 seconds to avoid something like this happening, I didn't even see them coming until they came around the stopped traffic to hit me.

wheel 411.63, hub 202.85, steering knuckle 190, strut 146.90, front end alignment 49.95, tire mount and balance 15.00, repair the bumper crack 225, mechanic labor 250, paint labor 215, then there are other charges that bring it up to 1900.

they hit me square on the wheel well area, but no damage to the fender or door, if it was a metal car, the damage would've been a lot more significant.

also, the tow truck put their tow bar on the engine sub frame and scratched the crap out of it, and scuffed the bumper, too (they responded with denial)

Dang dude, sorry to hear you got hit. From the sound of your rant, you seem physically ok, though lol. Don't get me wrong. I'd rant too given the same situation. My car is my baby fo sho! You're right about the plastic vs. metal. If you had metal skin, much higher repair tag. I'd tell the tow company to prove they didn't do it. If you have any recent pics of the front end you can always throw that at the insurance adjuster and tell them to go after the towing company for the incidental damage. Not sure if it's worth the effort though.

I don't have a pic of the subframe, but the body shop even put it on there that it's from a tow bar
