Car did not respond to gas pedal????

This morning I just got off the highway and was about to turn onto the road but when I stepped on the gas pedal, I just heard a "knock" type noise and the car didn't do anything--the engine didn't rev, the car didn't move, and the engine kept running. I put the car in park then back to drive and everything has been ok since. What can cause something like this to happen?

Interesting issue here. First thing to come to mind is bad differential pin. Make sure you have no leaks under the car and the tranny fluid level is good.

It may have just been the gear selector was not properly in its place. However its odd the rpms stayed steady.

If nothing has happened after this and the above checks out alright, i would assume a car burp and carry on.
