GM L81 3.0L V6 Engine Support Bar (Where to Acquire Compatible Alternative to GM?)

Hey everyone,

Regarding the following,

GM Parts:

- J43405 Engine Support Fixture Adapter
- SA9105E Engine Support Fixture (3 Bar)

I cannot seem to locate these; not even on ebay.

I have found a couple amazon bars; one that someone reviewed worked on a 2005 Cadillac Deville 4.6L

This one : https://www.amazon.com/Omega-44700-Black-Engine-Transverse/dp/B004AT7DSE/

Omega 44700 Black Engine Transverse Bar with Arm - 700 lb. Capacity (For $105)

I also found a more pricey bar that looks as if it would fit the L81 well without knowing for certain. ($245)

If anyone knows and has done this; please let me know! Thanks!

Anything verified for our engines?

Best Regards,

~ Brandon

I have one similar to the Amazon one. What repairs are you planning that will require one of these? I use mine when I need to remove the sub frame and then the transmission on some cars.

02 LW300,

Do you have the brand + model # on the one that you have?

I am planning on doing a full engine over-haul (gaskets & seals).

No, Iíve had it thirty years or so. It will only be in the way if you are taking the heads off your engine. Put a floor jack with a block of wood to protect the oil pan when you remove the engine mount near the belt. That way you can raise and lower the engine for access to various bolts.

02 LW300,

Oh okay! Yes! That's what I was doing when I replaced the alternator, serp belt and drive belt. (I am also guessing that's how I got my oil leak on the oil pan gasket). Which is why I will take the recommendation and replace that last; once all the engine repairs are finished.

I guess my question is; the FSM and the ALLDATA assumes the car is on a HOIST; therefore it says the engine support bar is needed for say "Water Pump Replacement". Is this because the car is on the hoist?

So regarding:

~ Timing Belt Replacement + Water Pump Replacement
~ GM L81 Engine Overhaul

No engine support bar needed when using a hydraulic jack and the block of wood? I thought there was a separate engine mount other than the passenger side one by the drive belt.

Could this be the reason why my FSM says I need an engine support bar to achieve a engine head gasket replacement?

Quite confused :P

Thanks!

Best Regards,

~ Brandon

The floor jack and block of wood only works if the car is on the ground. You are correct. If you raise the car on a hoist you need to support the engine from above if you have the engine mount removed for engine repairs.

02 LW300,

That makes a lot of sense 02 LW300! Thank you for letting me know all of this. Now I can disregard the support bar requirements on the jobs I am needing to do and this saves me valuable resources.

Best Regards,

~ Brandon

P.S. - How is your new 05 L300? The one with 47k? Miles? How much did you get it for if you don't mind me asking? Was the engine re-built or was it factory?
