99 SL1 102K Power Cuts Out?

Ok I need some help. My car has been acting up. I was driving back home and my saturn felt like it wanted to go faster than I would wanted it to (a small surge). As I was pulling into my complex the power cut out and came back on after a few seconds, I was just able to get it into the spot. I fired it up again while idiling it was soundings a little rougher than normal (this sound has been getting worse over time), after a few monents the power cuts out again. I know that this issue will only turn into a spiders nest of issues. This boy has seen better days. :dazed: :dazed:

Have you ever changed your engine coolant temperature sensor (ECTS) from the plastic-tipped one to the brass-tipped one? There are instructions in the How-To section on how to do the replacement.

Do you have trouble starting the car? My 1999 SL1 had less than 30,000 miles on it when I had to replace the fuel pressure regulator / filter.

Surging, rough running and stalling are all classic signs of EGR valve trouble. Removing and cleaning the lower EGR pintle (see my user gallery) will usually cure this issue for the cost of a can of spray carb. cleaner.
