Air Conditioning

I have a 1992 SL2 and want to add air conditioning. I'd appreciate information on how easy or hard it is to do and if anyone has done this and a guide to doing it.
thanks

Re: Air Conditioning

The only difficulty in adding a/c to your car (or any car that never had a/c) is adding the evaporator core and thermal expansion valve to the hvac box (inside the car). Most cars and suvs in the last 20/25 years have a/c as a standard feature when it was a luxury option years ago. All other external parts in the engine bay are relatively easy for installation (should a repair be needed). Adding a/c to a vehicle never having it requires removing many parts inside the car to remove the hvac box after disconnecting heater plumbing. Most service manuals have extensive procedures when a heater core or evaporator coil are replaced where procedures explain and drawings show the extent of interior disassembly needed to have access to the hvac box. The hvac box must be disassembled on a bench to add the a/c evaporator coil assembly and the thermal expansion valve, reassemble the box and carefully realign all four pipes thru the firewall for reconnecting to heater hoses and a/c lines. Other models like L200/L300's allow easier heater or evaporator coil removal from redesigned hvac boxes without tearing apart the interior.

Search for richpin videos. He shows pictures of the hvac box out of a car and may have procedures for removing it when repairs are needed to mode and temperature doors.

It is exactly right that to add a new air conditioning is pretty difficult if the original car doesn't comes with it, but there will be a lot of fun if we add it successfully. Thanks for sharing.

Re: Air Conditioning

Get a schematic on the a/c circuit and Id look for a parts car cheaper than a junkyard . Find another sc with one it . And you gonna need the wire harness from the other sc .
