2000 LS1 misfire/poor fuel economy

Ok so here it goes. I bought my 2000 LS1 used. All recalls have been done to the car. *Even the one where they replaced the engine*

Here is my issue. I am having an intermintant misfire. I am also getting poor gas mileage. There is no ck engine light! I have replaced the following items:

* Fuel Filter
* Air filter
* Upstream O2 sensor
* Ignition Coil 2nd time *it was replaced before w/ the recall*
* New plugs
* New plug boots
* Down stream O2 was replaced a few months back *ck engine light w/ this one*

My mechanic hooked an OBDII up to it and we drove around. All of them would misfire sometimes. Usually when we were stationary #3 would misfire. It usually doesn't miss unless I am stopped at a light, the car is in drive and the A/C compressor is on. (I am thinking it us just making a greater load and causing the engine to miss easier)

When I had my PA emissions done a few months back my car passed but it stated:

"Based on the information gathered during an attempt to prefor an Onboard Diagnostic test, NO RPM signal was available from the Onboard Diagnostic computer system. This vechicle should produce an RPM signal from the Onboard Diagnostic computer system." Could this be my problem?

Also if I sit at the light and I give my car alittle gas and rev the engine up, it is smooth and won't mis. Anyone have any ideas?

This is driving me crazy!

Oh and Saturn checked it out and said everything was ok!

Wow. Your problem sounds similar to mine. I am getting worse gas mileage these days with no check engine light.. I also have a slightly rough idle, although it just happened. I may have put some bad gas in the tank. I don't know. If I find anything I'll let you know.

I just ordered the follow sensors from Saturnparts.com I am hoping that one of these is feeding the PCM bad information. I'll let you know if this helps.

AIR INTAKE TEMP SENSOR
COOLANT TEMP SENSOR
KNOCK SENSOR
MAP SENSOR
This car is making me go :dizzy:

What kind of plugs did you use?

I had horrible idle and misfires in my 2000 sl1, also without any ses light. It was being caused by the Bosch Platinum's I had installed just a few months earlier. I took them out and put in the NGK's that everyone else recommends and it has been idleing smooth ever since.

OEM ACDelco #41-981. I couldn't find any other company that made a good plug. Does NGK make a plug for the 2000 2.2 l61?

OH MY!! Im sorry, I read your post to quickly the first time through and thought you had an "SL1", and now I see you have an "LS1." The NGK is what comes OEM in the S -Series, and the use of platinum plugs in the "S" series seems to give those symptoms you listed. If the plugs you bought were OEM in the "L" series, then I would feel confident that the brand is not the problem, however is sure sounds like something is not quite with the plugs....

Did the car ever get the recall done regarding the coil?

Yup. All campaigns were preformed. I even went out and put another ignition coil module in. The strange thing is, it was kinda warm today. I think it hit close to 60 degrees. It seemed to run pretty well. As soon as the sun went down and it got colder, it seems to be running crappy again. I hope these sensors come in the mail soon..

Does anyone have the proper gapping specs for a 2000 2.2? saturn told me it was close to 60 where as alldata online states it is 40. Can someone look in a manual and tell me? I bought my car used so it can w/ a S-Series book and not an L-Series! Stupid dealer..

Sound like what mine has been doing. Did those parts fix the problem.

I had mine into Saturn for three days and they replace plugs, coil pack and ignition module and it still does it. They told me if the engine light doesn't come on then the engine misfire / vibration is okay. They are full of crap!
