It turns out that the Astra isn't the only thing GM's Saturn division has up its sleeve for this week's big Windy City show. Visitors to McCormick Place will also get their first eyefuls of the 2008 Vue's performance and hybrid variants.

The '08 Vue Red Line (above) gets a nomenclature update (previously, Saturn used the single-word "Redline" moniker) and a "performance-inspired" new look that's bound to have people talking (that may not necessarily be a good thing). The Red Line's front end is dominated by an enormous air opening below the front bumper, which is bookended by big secondary cutouts that house projector-beam foglights. The center cutout is so large, you'd expect to see an intercooler hiding behind it. Don't look for any forced induction here, though. The Vue Red line has the same powertrain as the Vue XR: GM's 250-horsepower 3.6L VVT V6 matched with a six-speed automatic with a manual-shift mode. Buyers can order it with either FWD or AWD.

I like the look of the redline alot. I just don't think it is going to have any performance backing it up with that awful horsepower/weight ratio.

They look like an overbloated toyota matrix.

The launches will be stages over the course of the year:
VUE XE and XR = spring 2007
VUE Red Line = 3Q 2007
VUE Green Line = 4Q 2007

Redline looks like a Mini Outlook with that front fascia. But jeez, no extra performace? come on now. REDLINE!. It does look better than the regular XE/XR vue though. I can picture it in black.

I actually think the redline looks better than whats on the market now, it for sure looks a heck of a lot better than a RAV4, CR-V, Tuscon, or Torrent.

Goooo SATURN!

ALSO! in the redline picture, does it have Projector (polyellipsoidal) head lights? I like them much more than the Reflector headlights on the XE and XR 08 Vue.

Meh I am not a fan of the new bodystyle at all. I think the non-RL looks better than the RL as well.

I have to disagree I think the Rav 4 is far more appealing as far as aesthetics go opposed to the new Vues.

I personally don't like it. Like someone said earlier, it looks like a bloated Toyota Matrix.

Though some people have said they don't like it, I actually like the body style of Honda's CR-V ... at the very least it is an improvement over the old version.

Anyone have an idea for the price range of an 08 Vue Redline ? I am hoping to get one for around 26k... is this realistic? :(

Else I'll get a 08 Vue RX and just live without the sport tuned version.

Called two saturn dealerships. Both dont have pricing on the 08 vue. This vehicle comes out in a few weeks and they didnt even know. They didnt even know when they were getting them. One said august. Another said September. This is a joke. :D

Good clean aggressive look for the Red Line. Though I prefer the XR. Note this new Vue will have a wider stance and a more upgraded look than the competition including the expensive imports. It will be a winner with its improved attributes, powertrains, handling characteristics, performance, and what is sure to be a competitive price.

I'd like to see the 2007 and 2008 side by side in person. I expect some QC problems in the beginning, especially hearing about the problems Buick had with the Rendezvous.

What have you heard? I never heard of any Rendezvous production quality issues. (Except for quality of materials, but that's something any GM car including Saturn has had until recently.)
Similarly, I never heard anything bad of the Pontiac Aztek and quality issues (other than aforementioned cheap materials), as well as the styling.

I can't say I have any inside information, but I just don't get where people always say they want to wait a year or two before buying a new vehicle because of 'quality controll' problems or to let them 'get the bugs out of the new design'.

I'm sure some newly redesigned vehicles have problems...just like vehicles in their 3rd year of production do also. But the tales of massive problems with first year run vehicles are more products of the 70's and 80's. I'm not accusing anyone of this..but when I hear someone say they don't want to get the first year of a newly redesigned vehicle..about half the time it is someone who has the older model and is trying to convince themself they still have a good product.

My 1985 Olds Calais was a first year car and it was the best car I ever owned. The mechanicals were already proven from other GM cars before 1985.

It's like the Japanese they usually stagger the powertrain and body updates. Installing proven mechanicals in a new body or chassis. What a great idea that GM already did in 1985... Why do we forget proven ideas?

Production of the 2008 Vue begins mid-april. Dealerships should receive them no later than first week of june. Pricing is still not available, but expect around 2K more than what they are going for now.
