View Full Version : Purchasing VUE in winter.
Hello All,
Was just curious to know if there are any technical issues or drawbacks to purchasing a car in the winter months in relation to wear and tear on the vehicle with occasional cold weather starting and break-in? We took advantage of the many year end sales incentives that were offered and recently purchased a new 2007 VUE.
Thanks
Cam

Well, it sounds like you got a deal pricewise....:)
That doesn't hurt. As for break-in, it shouldn't matter too much as long as it gets to operating temp reasonably quick...I know it could be a problem in Ont. if you get an arctic flow. Does it come with a block heater? I would plug that in, to ease the break-in period. Just follow the recommended break-in protocol (read the manual) and it should be ok. My 06 i4 manual says to drive erratically for the first 500 miles (never keep at one speed for a length of time). Oh, and no redlining.....:)
Cheers, hope you like your new VUE...

I accidentally hit the rev limiter on my VUE as I drove it away from the dealership. It was so quiet compared to my SC that I just couldn't hear it. The odometer had 33 miles on it at the time. Oops. It's got 37,000 on it now and have not had any problems with the motor.
I wouldn't worry too much about it. Just drive it.

Thanks for your reply. Car is garaged most of the time and we seem to be having another fairly mild winter. Some light snow recently (first noticeable snow fall was last week) but certainly not what our winters use to be. Block heaters are seldomly ordered or come standard anymore because of the relatively mild winters. Just about reaching the 500 km mark and the thought just crossed my mind. Whether it makes a difference down the road as to whether a car has been subjected to cold weather initially as opposed to summer temps.

1100 kms since taking delivery Jan 3. No special prep other than checking the oil level as the colder weather and new engine may contribute to some loss. Honda V6 has been great and haven't needed to add any oil.

Thanks. We had a 2003 VUE with the VTI and traded it in on the new VUE.
Man, what a difference! I think they got all the bugs out because it drives and feels like a completely different vehicle. Hopefully the winter will continue to be kind to us!

I picked up my Vue just before winter and couldn't help but feel that the paint was not fully hard and a bit more easily dinged so I was a bit more careful about what conditions I drove through. But since it was my first new car purchase, it could have been all in my head...:xeye:

Out of curosity... What is the top speed of a 2.2L VUE? Can it reach 120 mph like the 3.5L?
It'll be interesting if they limit the 3.6L in the 2008 VUE like they did on the 3.6L in the Aura.

Mega difference between the 03 and 07!!!! Feel like we upgraded to caddy! But honestly, it's much quieter and the upgraded trim etc is really nice. We're very glad we made the trade. Enjoy!
