04 V6 Saturn Vue Stuck in Overdrive?

My Saturn Vue feels like it's stuck in overdrive. You put it in drive and it feels like you are taking off from second gear even though it's automatic. I also do not hear it switch gears and if you take it on a long stretch it is not over-reving like if the gear is stuck or anything like that. What could it be? What can I do? Has 50k miles, 2004 Vue 3.5L V6.

If it's gone into some type of "limp home" mode, you should have a service light. As a start I'd get hooked up to a code reader and see if there are any diagnostics..

You are correct, the engine light is on. The car was in an accident. I'll have it hooked up to a code reader to see what it saids. I hope it's nothing major.
