Hey all, I am planning to apply 3 coats of quietcar ( www.quietcar.net ) to my Vue to help silence the interior. I can pull the doors off easily, as I have installed a full sound system in my car, and I am not too worried about the removal of the seats and floor carpet, but does anyone know how to remove the headliner?

Thanks,
CK

Remove all the side post bezels, from the middle of the vue to the top, disconnect the dome and map lights, and down it comes.

Interesting stuff..you'll have to give us an update. The dealer gave me a ride today in the AURA and it was nice and quiet..made me wish the VUE was like that..

I'm just curious why you're going to do the roof. The headliner does a pretty good job of dampening any sound transmitted there. The real issues are the doors, floorpan, and firewall.

I just want to cover every metal piece I can. With the doors, I am going to apply the quiet car to the door frame and some sort of sound dampening foam to the actual plastic door panel. I am also going to apply it to the underside of the hood, wheel well areas, removing the seats and carpet to do the floor pan, and also removing the plastic coverings from the trunk area and covering that. I intend to make my vue quieter than a BMW. There is no real reason to doing it other than I am looking to take on a project to prevent bordom. I will take pictures along the way and keep updating a thread.

Doing the underside of the hood won't quiet anything down. If you do it anyway, make sure that the goop you're putting on there can handle engine compartment temps.

If you want to get really fancy, you could buy/borrow a sound pressure meter from Radio Shack and do a before/after ambient noise test at some predetermined speed.

That sounds like a great project!! (excuse the pun).....
I am curious to see photos of what you put above the headliner...I have an 06, which is quite quiet (I think they put sound dampening material in the doors and the floor has an inches worth of foam - pulled up carpet to route wires), but I don't think the ceiling has anything. I don't suspect much noise is coming through the roof, but it would quell any reverberation noise....plus, it is a huge area.....would make it even quieter....forget BMW, I want the quietest ride around. Just don't know what to put up there...not paying a fortune for Dynamex...there must be some Home Depot stuff a person can use?
