View Full Version : Remote start won't start

I just "finished" installing a remote start module on the wife's '06 Vue. I was able to wire up everything fine and get the individual wires from the starter to work properly. The only problem I am having is the car will not start and stay running. It runs for about 1 second on remote start activation and then shuts down.
I have replaced every component with a different one, both the starter module (the first was a cheap Autocommand 25522 which I managed to blow up with an ill-advised wiring choice, and a DEI Ready Remote 24927) and the Passlock bypass module (first a DEI 555L and now a DesignTech 29402). They all have reacted the same way. It will start, then shut down immediately.
I have concluded it is a problem with the bypass module/anti-theft logic. The Vue will start with the key. If I start the Vue with the key and then activate the Quickstop feature (where it will continue to run without the key until you press the brake or it times out) it will continue to run. The only thing I have not connected to this point is the lt. green "keysense" wire, in hopes I will not need to connect it with the bypass module connected at the ignition lock.
Both the DEI unit and the DesignTech require cutting of the yellow wire from the key and splicing in two wires into the unit. Then the third wire is tapped into the orange/black wire from the passlock harness as a neutral.
Any ideas of what I may be missing here? I am hoping to have this completed by Christmas, but am only treading water right now.

it sounds like the fuel pump itsn't activating with the remote start. it just might be running whatever fuel is in the fuel line at the time. that would give you a start and stall.

Send Wolfman a PM, he did a keyless install on his '05 2.2L and can probably help.

After few remote starter experience(though not on a VUE), all I can tell is your bypass module isnt working or not hooked up properly. Try this and report back, I may be able to help you more.
1) Leave the key in the ignition.
2) Hit the start button.
Now, DOES the car keep running??
If YES, bypass module is your culprit. If NO, some Issuew ith the remote starter module. What bypass module your using??

Key in cylinder, not turned any, it does not stay running.
Two different Passlock bypass module (first a DEI 555L and now a DesignTech 29402)
I already thought it was the module, so I purchased a different one and installed it. No change in performance.

I'm not sure if this is what you guys are talking about, but Vues don't have the transponder keys with the chip built in.

Did you try this(I'm thinking you might have tried this)..
Disconnect the hood pin switch wire and the brake pedal wire. hit the start button and see if the car stays running??
For more reference check this thread and you can go through what you missed(page 3).

That's true.... But the BCM needs to see the "key-in" and doesn't light up service light when remote started. Kinda double security....

Harsha, I already looked through that thread, and used it as the basis for my install. The only thing I can really identify as different is Wolfman used a Bulldog 791 Passlock bypass as opposed to the two I tried.
I'll give the hood/brake pin combo a shot, but they already do work correctly when connected and running individually. Probably won't get to it until tomorrow though, after the fog clears and it gets light enough to see. It is too big of a PITA to do the garage swap thing to get the Saturn in this time of night.

Is it a Favre brand? I hear there's been some problems with those...

Yeah, after thinking about this. I realised that if hood/brake wire was shorted, then you wont be able to remote start the car even for a second(If at all, the wires were grounded, it will just blink parking light few times, when you hit start button)
So, I doubt dissconnecting the hoodpin/brake wire do any good. If you have time to fiddle arround, you might give it a try. I have always used bulldog security's 791 bypass module. It works good and I'm comfortable with it. But one of them I used on my wife's car was a defect. I used the transponder connection, so all I had to use was three wires at the module. I had the same problem you are describing. Car used to start for few seconds and then shuts off. I tried changing the keys to no avail. Later I tested the wiring loop(which surrounds the ignition cylinder) for continuity... Guess what I had an open circuit there. So I took back the module to parts store and exchanged for a different 791 module. Came home and hooked it up, Worked like a charm!!!

I had the same problem the first time we attempted to install a remote start on my '06 Vue Redline. I don't know the exact specifics of the fix (my installer buddy found the fix) but basically we installed specific relays in place of a bypass...I could find out exactly if anyone is interested.
It now starts the first try and stays started...been on there since December 1st. My only possible issue (which may or may not be related to the remote start - didn't appear until the 21st) is that recently after leaving my car sit for 7 days the battery was completely dead. After getting it jump started and letting it run for 45 minutes, it started fine 2 days later, (just started it didn't drive it) but less than two days after that dead again. Dealership is looking at it as we speak.
