Cruise broke and air bag light on...

03 VUE 4 cylinder: Recently we set the cruise control and it came on, but then went off. After that it wouldn't stay on, but the light on the steering wheel was still on, though it wouldn't work. A few days later, the air bag indicator light on the dashboard came on for a while, then went off, and came back on, going on and off while driving. This has been happening for several days, with the light going on and off while I am driving, and now the cruise light on the steering wheel doesn't come on and the cruise doesn't work at all. We disconnected the battery to reset everything and also checked all the fuses. Everything there is fine but the problems persist. Any suggestions?

The symptoms would indicate to me a loose connection in or from the steering wheel hub. The speed control on the engine is not getting a signal, and the BCM has lost contact with the air bag. Maybe it's a loose connector on the harness from the steering wheel.

Sounds like you have a clock spring that has a broken grid in it(the clockspring is located behind the steering wheel & is covered by the steering column shroud.)

The only way to replace it is to pull the steering wheel off.

That must be it, because we just discovered that the horn doesn't work either...

Another vote for the clock spring. Caution must be taken when replacing so as not to deploy the air bag.

There are no Chilton and Hayes manuals that cover a 2003 VUE. Anyone know of anything we can use to guide us in the fix?
