I am 99% confident that the left front wheel bearing on my '03 Vue is going out. I did a search and the whirring noise (sounds like a B-17 taking off) seems to fit with all the posts about wheel bearings going out. I'm not to worried because I think that it's covered under my service contract.

Is the hub and bearing a one piece replacement? I.E. they don't sell them seperately? I've looked on Napa and Autozone's websites and they both list a wheel bearing/hub assembly for around $160. They just don't sell the bearing by itself.

I need to know this because if it's not covered under the service contract, I'll just change it myself. I grew up on a farm and have changed countless numbers of bearings on combines, tractors, and implements.

Yes its only sold as a one piece hub unit.

Your noise description is exactly what it sounds like and its a fairly common failure

Its a fairly easy job as long as the half shaft isnt seized in the hub ~1.0 to 1.5 hours labor (Remove half shaft nut and three bolts for the hub that are removed from the back side of the knuckel)
