I broke the hazard light switch this week. Pushed it in to turn on the hazard lights, and the whole assemble got pushed into the Bezel(?). So, actually, the switch isn't broken. It's just come off its mount. How do I get the Bezel (if that's the correct term for it - i.e. the plastic cover in the center of the dash) off to remount the switch?

I had to have the whole trim plate changed.
Mine was under warranty but
you may not be as lucky.
Good luck

Those plastic tabs that hold in the hazard switch are made of butter. It's ridiculous how fragile they are....

Anyways, to get the dash apart:

Lift up trim around shifter. Once you have that lifted off, there are 4 screws that hold the bottom storage cubby in. Unscrew those and remove the cubby. Then pull outward on the bottom of the remaining plastic (that goes from the climate controls up to the top of the dash) and work your way up. There are a few harnesses and connectors you'll have to unplug.

In the end, I'm not sure what you can do to fix this besides getting a whole new piece. The plastic tabs that used to hold the switch in are likely broken and starting a new life somewhere in your dash.... I thought about superglue (:hmpf:) but I'm not sure what I'd do if I had to get into the dash again.

If there are any Saturn techs that wish to post, they will state that they have seen this problem many times before. Take it to the dealer if it's under warranty if not get a new switch. If you super glue it back togather it will break again.

A new switch won't do anything. He most likely broke the plastic tabs that are a part of the bezel, not the switch.

The same thing happened twice to my Vue. The bezel has to be replaced because the tabs break off. I try not to use the hazard button. It was replaced both times under warrantee.

Unfortunately, my B2B warranty has run out. I'm not eager to pay for a new Bezel, and if I can do something to fix it myself, I would prefer to.

Thanks for the info!

If this is the right part....
Switch Bezel (http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/index.cfm?action=getLocator&siteid=214017&chapter=DR8ID02&appSectionid=2610&groupid=51866&subgroupid=4607&componentid=3168&make=31&model=Vue&year=2003&graphicID=ID02320&callout=4&catalogid=2)
... then $10 might be worth all the trouble you go through to fix it. Maybe you could add something to the new bezel to make it 'better than new'.

Mine also broke when I was doing my head unit.

A few dabs of hot glue and my switch isn't moving.

Total cost - $0.

Mine broke a few months ago and was under waranty. However I was told I needed to give up the car for a day, so I convinced them to give me the part. They normally sell it for 11.99 bucks at my dealer. Its very easy to put replace. Its probably easier to buy a new one than to fix it.

I as well have had the hazard button end up inside the dash,
was a warrenty item so no big deal,
seemed like it would be easy to fix/replace once the dash bezels were removed

Using the instructions in this thread ( I'd of never figured it out myself ) I got back there and removed the switch by unplugging it, and the plastic piece that is supposed to hold the hazard switch by unscrewing the two screws that hold it in place.

I just super glued the hazard switch inside the plastic piece that's supposed to hold it.

I'll let it dry and screw it back in. I used plenty of glue so I hope I won't have to do it again.

It's been behind the dash for about 2 years. It was still useable so I just couldn't justify paying a mechanic to fix it.

Next on the agenda? My cracked driver side mirror :)

The piece it mounts to on the bezel is replaceable and has about 6 or so screws you can order it through saturn parts.

i snapped mine off too.. lol, thats ridiculous, but instead of buying a part, and since i dont use my hazards often i used silicone sealer and just glued it back in the green housing :), nobody can notice and i can still use my hazards because its in there nice and tight!...so the next time i take my dash apart i vowed to just take the extra sweat and pull the plug to the hazard switch instead of taking out the whole switch...good as new.

While waiting for the glue to dry last night, I took my family to a local park. I discovered that my turn signals didn't work. I guess if you unplug the hazards you can forget about using turn signals :)

Everything is in place now. One of my kids that was used to the hole in my dash asked me " Daddy, what's that red triangle? "
