I've seen parts of this problem several places, but can't find anything in VUE tech, so I figured I'd post this.
My key started getting hard to turn in the ignition and finally it wouldn't turn all the way to lock. During that time the key would slide out in any position.
I read somewhere that the key is probably worn, so I checked and sure enough, it definitely was. By that time it was too late, it was already not turning all the way to lock. I tried graphite on advice from another post, but that didn't help.
I had a locksmith come out, thinking I would have to replace the ignition cylinder. $40 part on saturnparts.net, it should pop right out, $200 bucks max.
He pulls it apart, there's all kinds of dust from the worn down key. He blows it out with compressed air, checks out the tumblers, brake lock switch, etc. to see that everything is working fine, puts it back together, and BOOM - works like a champ.
I don't know if I could have used air inside the lock to get it going, but next time, new key first, blow air second, call locksmith last!
