Does anyone sell computer chips/mods for sautrns besides Venom? I've heard nothing but bad stuff about the Venom computers.

You'll still make a profit. They're worth a nickel.:D

JET used to (still does?) sell an upgrade for the Saturn PCM. You'd have to send it to them, they'd reflash it and send it back for something like $300. SPS quit selling them after they dynoed one and found it made no improvement in power.

Bolt-on's are the best way to make power on a Saturn. Don't bother with the computer, Venom or any 'chips' on eBay. I'm working with some people on TSN to hack the computer and make the info available to everyone. Hopefully we'll have something figured out after the holidays.

WOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOO! (If you're talkin' about the ODB II equipped saturns.)

The only good working "computer mod" for the Saturn is actually an interceptor. It is the Apex-i SAFCII. It intercepts signals from the PCM and outputs "enhanced" signals to the fuel injectors, changing pulse width and timing (I guess). It's the only thing that will fit in the "computer mod" category you are referring to.

Do you NEED to be on a dyno to use it properly? I know you can make a better a/f ratio with it. I was thinkin' about gettin' one along with a laptop devoted to modifying this sometime next summer. You should go into detail on how it works and what you need.

NEED? No not exactly. But if you want one to work...correctly...safely, and for maximum power, you will NEED to tune it on a dyno with a wbo2.

why bother modifying signals and such? is it a fairly cheap system?
I would think a stand alone fuel management system would do a better job?

I'm going Apexi at some point because if I go to a full fuel computer upgrade I will fall into a different Solo class.
If I were just street or drag I think I'd probably do Megasquirt.

A standalone system will cost at least $500 (megasquirt, the cheapest). An SAFC can be had in the $150 range, though new ones are about $250+. Nice standalone systems will cost well upwards of $1000.
The SAFC is WELL worth the money spent. If you can obtain 15whp with $200 and a few hours on the dyno then that is quite a deal! Also they are fairly easy to set up! Only problem is you should have a dyno to tune it on and well... there are none within 80 miles of me.

I'm going to get one of those AFC's once I get enough bolt-ons installed. I plan to keep my Saturn through my lifetime, at least, so I think it's worth it. There are no other effective computer mods out there right now.
