View Full Version : Dimmer/Fog light switch trouble after MP3 install

I just swapped the stock single CD player for a MP3 unit off of a 2004 Ion. The swap went flawlessly and the MP3 deck works great - only took about 30mins. start to finish. One thing I noticed today though, my dimmer switch and fog light switch are not working. Now, I didn't disconnect these two when doing the swap because I was able to get around the dash trim without doing so. The hazard button works fine though. Is there any way the wiring to these switches came loose during the install or could it be something else? I'm not sure how the wiring is attached to these two things so I really don't know if I made them come loose in any way.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah I bet you pulled them loose. That dimmer swith like "snaps" into place. The hazzard has many wires and a nornal type of connection. Pull grey plastin back off and check them. I always seem to kow off the temp control and wind up having the dial all over the place!

Anyway easy fix....

Yes, check the connection on the dimmer/fog switch. I have pulled my dash apart about 15 times so far and I have never had a failure like that.

Good luck.

I opened it up again on the weekend and you were right, the 2 plugs must have come loose during the install. It's all good now though except for the fact that I managed to drop one of the screws for the storage try in the console somewhere. Still holds fine though. I'll have to wave my retractable magnet around in there one day and see if I can dig it up.

Thanks for the help.

I lost a screw as well, but thankfully it fell towards the front where I could get in between the plastic and the carpet.

What I did after that was stuff something in the gaps to the side of the storage tray so it would catch the screw instead of it falling all the way down.

BTW, I see you own a 2002 Spec. I traded my 02 Spec in for my Vue. Are you on b15 or thevboard?

You'd think I'd have been smart enough to do the same thing but......:D

I'm registered on both but don't post much. I do read through those 2 sites though.

LOL, it took me temporarily losing one screw to figure it out ;)

Glad to see another Spec owner around here (even if I'm a former owner).
