Here's a heads-up on the Saturn Rear Drum Wheel Cylinder Inspections.
Bulletin CQB 04-04
Subject: Saturn Rear Drum Wheel Cylinder Inspections
Vehicle Involved: 1991-2002 Saturn S-Series
2000-2004 Saturn L-Series
2002-2004 Saturn Vue
2003-2004 Saturn Ion
Condition: Proper inspection of rear drum brake wheel cylinders.
Repair Procedure: Saturn recommends that dust boots not be removed during the wheel cylinder inspection process. Dirt and debris could
contaminate the wheel cylinder bore causing premature wear.
Saturn states that some lubricant may drip out from under the boot.
All Saturn rear drum brake wheel cylinders are assembled with a
lubricant that provides an anti-corrosive coating and acts as an aid
to the assembly process.
The lubricant may work its way to the outside of the wheel cylinder
boot. Evidence of a damp area on the boot does not indicate a leak
in the cylinder. However excessive wetness, or drips coming from
the area of the wheel cylinder could indicate a hydraulic fluid leak.
