I have a 2004 Saturn VUE. I decided to replace my XM plug and play unit with a direct hook-up for the better sound quality. I asked Saturn and they said doing a retro-fit on an existing radio was VERY expensive (about $1500) and suggested I look into 3rd party radios.
I bought a Sony Head Unit with XM Direct, but now I have found out that Onstar and my chime warning system went through the factory OEM radio!
There are 3rd party harnesses out there for other GM vehicles that provides the interfaces for these systems, but the ones I found do not list Saturn as being compatible.
I find it hard to believe that this is a unique problem in my case.
Has anyone been able to find a solution to this? The dealership was very helpful but did not know of any parts that would handle this. If there is can someone tell me who makes the part and where I can get it? I have not been able to find it.
Also, if the chimes are not working anymore, does this mean the built-in alarm system is also no longer functional? What else is no longer functional?
I was thinking of canceling OnStar in 2 months anyway when it expired, but the chimes and alarm systems I believe are pretty important.
Thanks.
