I want to install a trailer hitch on the wife's '05 Vue V6. What's available and what do you recommend? I plan on towing a small single axle trailer (6X10), with 2 atvs on it (400lbs each), plus misc riding gear.

Anyone have some installed pics of the various hitches that are available?

I think those are my best tow hitch pictures in my gallery.

That is a class 3 hitch I ordered from Reese tow hitches. Install was not too bad either. I had my girlfriends father help me out. The wiring I have set up to store inside the jack compartment and run it out the trunk when being used. This way the wires wont get ripped on any of my excursions. Before instalation (since my hitch was scratched from shipping), I removed all stickers, sanded lightly, cleaned, and repainted with high gloss rustoleum. It looks really good when clean. I will reaply the treatment probably once a year. I hate the sight of a rusty tow hitch on an otherwise perfect vehicle.

In my opinion, I like the looks of a class 3. Even if I never planned to use the extra towing capacity, I would install the 3 anyway. SUV's just dont look right with a small hitch on them.

I installed a class 2 hitch on my vue. Took about 1-1/2 hours. I removed the rear bumper cover. It seems that the poeple with the most probelms are the ones who install the class 3 hitch. For some reason they don't always line up right. Some poeple are getting a great deal installed at u-haul. Search the forums there a great articles on DIY installation.

I bought a class II from e-trailer for $92 and installed myself in about an hour. You can kinda see it in this pic. I have yet to do the wiring. At e-trailer, most 2" accessories are also available in the 1 1/4" size, so that's not an issue.
