How many miles are yall averaging on the Vue before you replace your brake pads?

A couple days ago I notice when I applied the brakes I would hear a faint squeak. I didn't notice anything yesterday so I thought maybe some moisture had develop on the rotor or something that cause the squeak. Then today I notice when I back out of the driveway and hit the brakes I heard a squeak/grinding noise. I drove around the neighborhood to see if I could hear the noise again and I did not. Then I decided to put the Vue in reverse and as soon as I hit the brakes I hear the same squeak/grinding noise. I only notice it in reverse and only when I first hit the brakes. I tried it several times and never heard anything while going forward. But as soon as I engage reverse and hit the brakes I hear the noise. At first I thought my pads were bad but then it puzzled me that I didn't hear anything while coming to a forward stop. Has anyone here experience this problem before? Let me know what you think.

Never had that problem, but my pads were replaced around 28k due to warped rotors. They replaced the pads and rotors under waranty.

well i have 21,000 miles on my vue and was wondering if the pads need to be replace. it just seems a little early to change the pads. i'm going to rotate my tires so while the tires are off i'll check the pads. it just seems strange how i'm hearing this sound when i hit the brakes in reverse.

I have the same deal on my 03 cavalier.
It's aggressive brake pads.
If the rotors are out by a tiny bit then the edge of the pads will chirp.

Mine squeak almost everytime I take it out in the morning.
Hit the brakes a little harder once and it's stops for the day.

My last vehicle (GMC Safari) did the same thing.
I've found it annoying but usually doesn't mean they are bad.
Have them checked out, and see what they say.

Alot of cars will do that in the morning or after raining. The water makes slight surface rust on the face and back of a rotor. The squeak you hear is the surface rust being pushed against the two sides of the rotor face and the brake pad.

Nothing to worry about. All cars do it. Now if it persists we get it checked.

41500 miles on the original pads and rotors. Still have about half of the pad thickness left and no rotor warpage. Perhaps it has something to do with driving style, or your highway to city mix?
