Looking into upgrading stereo and adding some sound dampening material in the doors. I researched a bunch on the forums, found a great post but now I cant find it again! Has anyone replaced their factory sound system? Mine sounds decent but not great. I have 7 speakers (2 tweeters, 4 door speakers and sub-woof in back). I dont know much about stereos, is there a rhymn and reason to getting which kind viz. mid-base, 3 way, 4 way etc... Does anyone know the output of the factory 6 disc model? If you can point in the right direction, pretend that the only thing I have every replaced is a head unit :-)

there have been a few posts regarding sound systems in the main vue forums so you may wantto check there.
I replaced my factory system about a month ago and went according to the stock sizes which means that in the doors you have 6-1/2 inch speakers. i went with infinity kappas, kinda pricey though. up front along with the door speakers you havethe tweeters in the up front. my front set of 6-1/2s is actually a component set. the tweeters take care of your highs and teh door speakers are midbass speakers which provides a little low end. I did not have the factory sub so i dont know how it sounds but if you check my gallery i went with the hidden sub box that people put up on teh board and i love it. i have a sub box and 3 amps and have not lost a bit of cargo space.
As far as headunits go i can imagine that the stock unit is only puttin out about 10 watts rms. im not sure what is goin to the sub though. the 1st thing i did was replace the head unit and i was presently suprised with the sound from the factory stuff. Just do research-go listen and ask questions. GOOD LUCK

Thanks! I will keep searching the posts. When I search for speakers to fit it says on crutchfield that 5.25's fit, not 6 1/2's. Did you have problems installing the 6 1/2's?

no i did not at all---the speaker is actually in between the 2 sizes--i went with the 6.5 for more mid bass sound

remember your speakers are just one piece of the sound system. your head unit is just as important if not more important than some good speakers. there are many different options you can select for better sound. you need to figure out how much you want to spend and then work from there.

I have the mp3 6 disc changer, is this an upgrade. Would it perform better if I were to get an amp for the door and tweeter speekers? They only need what...up to 50 watts or so? Or does an aftermarket head produce much better sound still? I am thinking of a double din to fill the whole space with dvd and gps as well as cd. So far cant find ANY aftermarket in dash 6 disc changer with gps and/or dvd. Might have to sacrifice and get a changer...the hunt continues
