I have a 2005 VUE with manual transmission.
If I hit the clutch really hard and fast like a panic stop the clutch pedal will
lockup and no amount of force will make it move. If I release the pedal slightly and then push down everything is normal. If I apply normal pressure to the clutch it works perfectly normal.
What's the most likely cause. The master cylinder, the slave, or something internal to the clutch?

Your master cylinder is probably going, and could be a result of a failing slave.

I unfortunately have been the only poster here so far experiencing hydraulic issues with the clutch on a VUE. I lost my master cylinder last March, had it replaced at work, and drove it until August, when my slave cylinder went - taking the new master with it.

Get it looked at asap... you don't want to risk killing the slave because of a failing master.

Yes this thread is old but I have also had rather major hydralic problems. I have a 2004 Vue, 4 cyl, 5 spd that I bought new in '04. First several months ago, the clutch became extremely difficult to depress. This happened on a trip and after a while it seemed to resolve itself. But then, so slowly I didn't notice initially, the clutch began release lower and lower. Initially the clutch caught very high, something I never liked.

Anyway, I noticed it when it got so bad that fully depressed the clutch was not fully disengaged. I had little choice but to drive for a bit. The problem was the slave cylinder which idiotically Saturn chose to put INSIDE the transmission. That's why the clutch has no adjustment. And it's why it cost me $1800 to get it fixed because the entire transmission has to be pulled. Of course the bad slave cylinder took my clutch out too and clip on the shifter end of the cables broke as well.

All this follows the cables/clips falling out a couple of years ago while still under warranty.

I should also mention that Saturn had to replace the wiring harness because when it rained the gas peddle did not function. It seems the harness was allowing moisture in so the computer wasn't controlling the accelerator.

Saturn has engaged in some really crappy engineering. Or should I say lack of engineering. They saved a couple of bucks building it and it cost me $1800.

We were die hard Toyota fans and we took a chance on this Vue. I've had it with Saturn and GM in general. Give me a Toyota!!

Enjoy it, I'm sure that your Tor-up-ya won't have any problems at all for at least 50 years.:ugh:

I would have it looked at right away. Like Vueboy said. Hydraulics are going and maybe the plate/flywheel are worn out too. You don't have more then 100k on it do you? Plates start to go at 100K-150k+. And have the flywheel resurfaced if possible.:)

:ugh: The 5 speed manual found in Vues are Getrags. Their a German company who supply trannys to GM, Toyota, BMW, Benz, ect. The "falt" does not lie with GM/Saturn. You can join my neighbor with his 2002 Corolla with 50k on it, sitting in his driveway for 2 months because of a blown head gasket.

Interesting comments. So Saturn/GM has no responsibility for the cars they build and sell? I don't care where the tranny was designed. I bought a Saturn and it is a piece of crap! Placing the slave cylinder in the tranny is just stupid. A $200 job becomes a $1200 job as a result. Saturn/GM was well aware of this fact when they built and sold the Vue.

Yes, I'll stick with my Toyotas. I've had 5 of them so far and never had a problem with any of them. Change the oil, tires, brake jobs, that's it. My first Toyota truck was still running great when I sold it with over 250k miles on it. You're neighbor probably drove his like a race car and never did a flush/fill on the coolant system.
