Wouldn't it be easier just to stash a spare KEY in or on the car somewhere? Even after going through the trouble to install a push button ignition, you still need a KEY to get into the locked car to push said button.....

...actually, if you had a keyless entry system, you wouldnt need any keys at all. And as long as the car was armed and locked, the ignition would be disabled.

You could also install a remote start system instead of the push button. Most remote start systems will kill the engine if the brake is pressed if you dont have the key in the ignition. But instead of installing it that way, you could have it sence weather the system is armed and have a kill switch on the door pin switch. So say if you remote start the car, then somehow open the door without disarming the system, the engine would die. But if you disarm the system, the car would continue to run and you could drive away with it.

I think I may do this. Especially since I need a new ignition cylinder anyway. Its all messed up from when my 95 was stolen.

so as long as it doesnt detect that the door is open it wont shut off but the only problem is the steering wheel lock how would you get passed that.

Remove it. Turn the wheel hard enough and it breaks anyway.

now when you talk about the door pin that is the pin that will turn on the dome light when you open the door. all i would have to do is wire up a switch for these door pins( would i have to do passenger side as well). so this is the scenario; i push remote starter get in car the switch for the door pins have to be off before entry. get in car and drive when i want to shut off car turn door switch on and press brake. or am i all confused :dizzy: thanx lowsaturn.

On an regular remote start system, you remote start the vehicle via the remote. Get in, put the key in the ignition, turn it to the on position, press the brake to de-activate the remote start system, then drive away. If you do not put the key in the ignition and press the brake, then engine dies. Also if you open the hood before inserting the key into th eignition, the engine dies. All this prevents someone driving away a remote started vehicle whitout having the keys.

The way Im proposing to change it up a little is do not connect the kill to the brake switch. Instead connect it to the door pin switches. It would work like this:

-Remote start the vehicle with alarm system armed.
-Unlock vehicle via the remote (this step would replace the "put the key in ignition and press the brake step"
-Get in a drive off.

Now if the system was still armed and you attempted to open the door (through an open or broken window) no only would the alarm sound, but the engine would die. This would act like pressing the brake pedal down without putting the key in the ignition on a normal installation.

The only problem I see with this whole set-up is that you loose the accessory function of the ignition if you dont have your keys. You could use the key and put it in the ACC. position if you want to listen to the radio. Or you could add what a lot of newer cars have, R.A.P. Retained Accessory Power. My Suburban has this. Its function is to keep the radio, power windows and other function powered up without the key in the ignition. This circuit is usuall powered for 20 minutes or until the first door is opened. This can be added to any car for very little cost, approx. $5 in parts.

If you have problem losing your key, wouldn't you have problem finding your remote control too?

ok lowsaturn i am still trying to understand. sorry. but wouldnt you still need the key in the ignition and switched to on even if you move the kill to the door switch. thanx.
