View Full Version : 2006 Vue - Rough Idle?

I've only had my new Vue for about a week and a half now, but I notice when I'm sitting at a stop light that it seems to idle kind of rough (appears to be right around 700-750rpm, possibly a bit less). So much so that I can feel the vibration in the brake pedal. I know I'm still "getting used" to the way the new Vue runs etc., so maybe this is normal, but it's not something that my '03 Vue ever did. I also notice that when I start it up, it doesn't simply turn over and start immediately, it gives a crank or two before starting. Again, not something my '03 did.

Has anyone else noticed these issues? Is it something I should bring it into the dealership to have checked out? Or is this just normal for the '06?

It's the 6 cyl AWD. Thanks in advance for any responses. :)

Please don't waste your dealer's time. They have real problems to fix. It' a totally different powertrain than an 03. It' normal.

For the idle---
Head on down to where yo got the car and get them to let you drive a demo car with the same drive train and compare it. If differnt is may be due to mileage differences or you may have a problem. Nothing may be able to be done about it though so keep that in mind. different engines can act differently.

The starting thing is most likely die to different years and different engines.

Thanks for the responses. I didn't want to waste MY time at the dealership either, which is why I posted here first for valued opinions.

My 05 3.5V6 had both of those issues when it was fairly new. Now that the engine is well broken in and am runing synthetic oil the vibe has gone away. The less-than-perfect start issue is gone too...or maybe I'm just used to it by now
Remember, this is a Saturn with a Honda drivetrain. It is not a Lexus. Perfection ain't here.

My 04 3.5V6 has always idled smoothly and quietly. I do have the extended crank syndrom. My dealer told me its something with the fuel pump...made sense to me, so they replaced it and a bunch of other parts. Didnt help. It only has, and still does it ocasioanlly. Usually it happens after an extended drive (abbout 4 hours) and then shut off the car and start it (like get gas). It has never not started on me.

Some people on the forum have agreed that leaving the key in the on position for a second or two will solve the problem by allowing the fuel pump to have time to build up the needed pressure.

Thanks for the tips! I don't notice the rough idle as much anymore. It still does the extended cranking thing, but I'm trying not to let it bother me. I think it's more that I'm just trying to get "in tune" with this new Vue and understand what is normal to expect of it, so that when something is not normal, I'll realize it. I appreciate everyone's helpful advice.

I've always paid too much attention to my cars... I think it has alot to do with growing up with a father who is a mechanic. ;)
