Getting adjusted to something new can be fun, but sometimes it can also be very frustrating. Below is a list of questions you might have about the new forums.

I was an existing member, but am having trouble logging into the new board.
All SaturnFans members should have received an e-mail explaining how to activate their account in the new system. Please send an e-mail to core@erols.com if you have any questions about reactivation process, or if you did not get an e-mail with instructions how to start the process. Unfortunately, during the migration to the new message board roughly 300 member accounts were not imported.

What happens once I log in?
After logging into the message board, you will be redirected into your personal message board control panel. The control panel is the “nerve center” for the new system. This is where you update your profile, upload avatars, set your user preferences, monitor subscribed threads, and more.

What is an “avatar”?
An avatar is a small graphic that is displayed beneath your username whenever you post something on the message board. This is an enhanced version of a popular feature that used to be part of an older SaturnFans Message Board from a couple years ago. Users with Junior Member level status and above can upload their own personal avatars. Avatars cannot be larger than 100 x 100 pixels and 10kb in size.

Where’s the spell checker?
The company that provided the free spell checking service has given notice that it will be suspending operation of its services in the very near future. As a result, the spell checker has been removed from this release of software. I am looking for a replacement.

What do the stars mean?
The member level and stars feature was another popular feature of an older SaturnFans Message Board that was missed in the previous version. With this new board, I have created six member levels:

No Stars - New Member (0 to 9 posts)
1 Star - Junior Member (10 to 49 posts)
2 Stars - Member (50 to 499 posts)
3 Stars - Advanced Member (500 to 999 posts)
4 Stars - Senior Member (1000 to 1499 posts)
5 Stars - Master Member (1500+ posts)

I can’t find a post!
As far as I can tell, all messages were sucessfully imported into the new database. However in the event that you can’t find a particular message, let me know. The old database is still available.

Why is the time incorrect?
The clock for this forum has been set for GMT. All users should log into their control panel and select what timezone they are in. This will correct the time.

If you have more questions, please post them as a reply to this thread.

Thanks!
Charlie

Hey charlie,

I try to get my pic that I want on my computer to show up. but everytime I save the picture with the proper pixels it will only save it as a (.awd, .tif, or. bmp)

I am using Micorsoft Imaging, and Paintbrush, I think that is all we have unless there is another photo/pic program I can used with my stock windows setup to alter the image to fit.

Hi Whelan,

The only variables that limit a member's ability to upload an avatar is that it must be less than 100 by 100 pixels or 10000 bytes. I am not aware of any image format limitations, however there may be some that I haven't noticed yet :( . Can you send the image you'd like to become your avatar? I would be happy to re-format it for you.

If anyone else is having difficultly creating a personalized avatar, feel free to send the full-size image to me at core@erols.com.

Thanks!
Charlie
