OK, now that I have my new Infinity Reference 6.5's in and they sound absolutely killer, I had people all over campus turnin their heads to see where that sound was comin from. Very crisp vocals and treble and deep bass with no reflex. But the doors vibrate quite a bit and that sound gets annoying. How can I stop it, or is Dynamat the only way to go. You cant really hear it when it is turned up but I would like ot get rid of it and fast!

I used Dynamat to stop it on mine. The first time the speakers were installed, they weren't even drilled into the doors. They were just put on with tiny metal clamps that held them in place and that is why they vibrated so much. I would think if you got it put on properly against the door, it would not cause any more vibration. For me, I put Dynamat just to be safe.

OK I am gonna do that
But I noticed that you dont always have to do the whole door with dynamat. They sell speaker kits which are 10" x 10" pieces that you put just around the speaker. Would that help or should I put it on the whole door.

Since the speakers on my 98 SL1 are mounted to a metal frame on the door, i solved some of the vibration problem with wrapping some of the sticky adhesive used in a windshield installation kit around the rim of the speaker so it comes between the metal frame and the rim around the speaker. This seemed to solve most of the problem until I started putting even more power to the speakers.

Hey that sounds like an idea. Better than puttin 20 bucks up for dynamat. My Infinities came with some foam stripping to put on the edge I guess but I just put it back in the box. I guess I will just try that and see how it works. I only plan on changing its power when I change my head unit. The current one is 25x4 but the newere sony's put out 50x4 so I am not sure. Cause my amp is gonna be hooked up to the sub only. Then I know I will definitely Dynamat the trunk cause I hate vibration, it takes away from the car a lot.

I didn't do the whole door. Only 10 x 10 square around the speakers. Just enough to get under the speakers so they hit the dynamat and not the door. <img src="http://64.77.2.166/cgi-bin/UltraBoard/Images/Happy.gif" border="0" align="middle">
Thanks!

I am gonna go buy those dynamat speaker kits for 20 bucks on monday. But Tenchi! Did you use the whole 10x10 square on the door or just enough that you could fit in with your hands around the speaker?

Well, the square has a circle that punches out in the middle to put around the speaker which is what I did. I didn't cut up the dynamat but I used the rest of the circle punched out around the door a bit too.

I know I have posted before, but I still feel you are going to spend way too much money for something you can get much cheaper elsewhere. For about $12.00 you can get stuff that is better than regular dynomat and it comes in 32" x 54" sheets. You can get two of these and then cover both doors completely and still have some left over. Look for the stuff at McMaster.com, do a search for sound absorbtion. Also, this stuff applies much easier than dynomat.
Dynomat is just way over-priced because it is marketed to car stereo people.

Well,
I bought the stuff and it was only 13 bucks for the 10x10 sheets from Circuit City. I just have to get my panels off. I finally figured out how to do so and had everything apart except the window crank. Now I finally figured out that there is a lil pin that I have to push off but it is right on the edge of the handle, how can I reach it and with what???
