Hey there,

If you travel on the web and happen to pass by www.GMPperformance.com and go to exhausts. They are coming out with a dual exhaust setup for saturns, and for once my 94 SL1 is included. Wahoo!!! it is 159 bucks and its cat back piping but no mufflers. I can deal with that and buy mufflers somewhere else. But now I can at least show these lil neons what a dual exhaust should look like. No big cylinders sittin under my bumper!!

I havent checked the web addy but does this include 96 sl2's

Hmm, when I just checked their site, the only linked categories available under exhaust were headers and mufflers, which, sadly, do not include any Saturn products. Where did you find the setup on the site?

I _need_ a dual exhaust system!!!

OK the old timers on this board are goin to get tired of me bragging about my dual setup but I'll fill you guys in on how to get it done.

I took my car to a local shop and gave them the specs on the exhaust setup I wanted and I showed them how to do it From pictures I saw on the web (Thank you Adam Wolf). The said that it would take all day but it should not be a big deal. $250 later I had a 2" dual exhaust setup with two, 2 chamber Z-28 replacement mufflers and a high-flow catco Cat installed. The only thing I lamented was that I did not get a resinator installed right then because if you go without one the car is HELLISHLY loud and sounds "farty" like those Honda boys. So afterward I put in a 36" (Yes three feet long!) 2 1/4" thrush glasspack to work as a resinator. Now the car sounds fantastic and breathes alot better than it did with the stock setup.

Peace y'all,
Abe.

As far as I know the exhaust setup is for all 1.9 L SOHC and DOHC is all that is says. Having trouble... Just like I said

www.turbopower.bigstep.com

then on the upper part of the page there are categories, like turbo and stuff. click on exhaust and scroll to the bottom. They have cat back piping for 99 bucks minus muffler. I liked that last post before mine by the way...Is that car you are talkin about the SC2 I saw with the duals?? But I got my info from Jim at monkeyracing. Check out his page at www.monkeyracing.com I plan on ordering that intake from him soon and I will let you all know how it helps me out with my lil SL1.

Oh yeah and the system comes with an 18" resonator!

There is the specific link for the page with exhaust.

Ok Whelan I don't know much about resonators but is the 18" gonna be raspy or deep, the longer the better? B/C I have the dynomax and its raspy at certain rpms. Please feel me in..TIA

Whelan,

My monkey racing intake should arrive sometime next week for my 94 SC1. I'm am definately anticipating its arrival. So far Jim has been great with answering questions and giveing me updates. Hopefully the product is as good as his customer service. I will definately be posting the results.

Good to hear!!

Sam96 I honestly couldnt tell ya. I know for sure it wont sound as tough as a flowmaster but I could garuantee it wont be like those lawnmower hondas. The exhaust setup is only as good as the smallest pipe you have on there. So I would think if you got the duals then got nice mufflers, I think the piping they sell is more so for the air movement and you put the muffler you want. I have heard some good reviews of the Spintech Pro Street muffler. What else? umm oh yeah, Sam you might wanna talk to Abe about the resonator, he sounds like he knows more about it. Also El Nino, I cant wait to hear what you have to say about the intake, I am gettin mine in a month or so. Jim is awesome with his service questions, and he seem like a cool guy, wonder what his name on here is, if he is even on??

I always thought dual exhausts were not efficient for inline 4 cylinder motors.

Duals are suited for engines that have 2 banks of cylinders (V6 & V8).

Is this for looks? Is a dual exhaust really better than a single pipe?

What about weight?

The stock system:
The header collects the four exhaust ports into a single pipe. This pipe goes into the catalytic converter.. then into an exhaust pipe.

The dual system:
Is it a dual system from the header back? In other words, is the header split into two pipes with two separate catalytic converters? -or- Are the four header pipes collected into one tube.. into the catalytic converter, then split into

--\
--\ /--------exh
----------CAT---
--/ \--------exh
Header

What you need is flow.. some gas momentum, a little back pressure and whatever tone you want from the exhaust resonator.

On a V6 or V8 (or V10 or 12) motor, you naturally have two separate exhaust systems.... with a 4 it's all show.

Really seems like a single pipe would be lighter, less complex, cheaper and better flowing than a dual system.
I can't recall any racing motors that use dual systems with inline 4-cylinders.

All depnds on what you want I guess.

That diagram didn't work at all.. ..

Oh well.. .

I agree with Doug on the fact that the duals are for more for show than go.

If you are concerned about weight the extra muffler and tailpiping weighs about 15 pounds-not much. As for impeding flow the duals really don't my system has the exhaust pipe "Y"ed into 2 pipes after the rear suspension and I think even after the gas tank. 70% or more flow goes through the muffler closest to the "Y" and any overflow hits the second muffler thsi is also a neat way of managing backpressure if you think about it.

can you get just aa much flow for a single outlet pipe? Certainly. Can you get the same sound from a single outlet? Certainly not.

Abe.

OK, So if I went with the single setup with a dual tip exhaust would that be better then? I would think the dual is for mostly show because it is kinda pointless power wise to put duals on the 4 you are right with that Doug. But I think the system is just the one manifold and then it splits into two seperate pipes at teh converter which then does what this last post says, just sends more exhaust to one end and less to another. As for the weight I am not truly concerned with it. But I did get my car wtih power nothing to save weight on the doors, lol so I guess I am a lil consciencous. Hmm what to do? I think I just might to the 99 dollar setup single piping and then run a dual tip muffler. Anyone got any good ideas for a muffler that won't sound whiny.
