I just my Yellow 2001 SC2 a couple weeks ago! First thing I did was get Y/B pedals and Y/B shift knob last Saturday. This Saturday I got the inlay, acid etch, sunroof deflector, and MY SHIFTER CUT! It is great! I love it. My Tech here in good 'ol KC took it out and cut for almost nothing. The SPS shifter is nothing more than a standard OEM stick that has been cut. Their's cost $120 I think while mine was almost free. It really helps making shifts quicker to improve performance. Can't get better than free speed! I plan on modifying something every Saturday. Next week I will have my Tech bore my Throttle Body instead of having SPS do it for over $100. Remember anything that has a core deposit is nothing more than a used OEM that was modified. It is great for those who can't find someone to do work, but expensive compared to someone who can. I like SPS' non core products and customer service. I applaud them much on really getting us started, but just wouldn't buy anything with a core deposit that my Tech can do for half or less. Anyone in KC by the way should talk to my Tech Randy Sipes at Blue Springs Saturn. He can do anything. He works on Saturns and other race cars.
Thanks,
Dayle

So when you had him cut the shifter. He just chopped a few inches off the top???? Cause if that is the case then I would do that to mine instead of payin 189 for the SPS. If you could, find out how much he cut off because I have a 94 SL1 that I would like to make short shift, either by buying it from SPS or myself. I got a hacksaw, lol. But also did you have to modify your boot at all becuase the shortened distance would make it baggier???

If I am not mistaken the SPS shifters don't just cut the shifter down, they in fact raise the pivot point on the shifter as well. Someone else on here is also selling short throw shifters with raised pivot points for a little less. Do a search for short throw shifters to read about his...I think it's Chris. Might be worth checking out.

If I am correct, the original SPS shifter was simply shortened but the newer ones have a modified pivot point. Also, an ex-tech makes a shortened shifter with bearings installed for zero free play. I don't have one yet, but everyone raves about the feel. See www.CHRIS97SC2.com
If this is the wrong site address, it is posted somewhere else on this board.

I currently do not have the one with the bearings, however, the "standard" short throw shifter with raised pivit point is a bream to drive with. Easily the easiest and most fun mod to date. You will enjoy driving your car each time you shift!

GO WITH CHRIS's PRODUCT!!!

Just cutting your shifter is not a "true" short shifter, I think that Chris's reduces the shift length 45-48% ( I could be wrong, but not by much )

Great guy to work with...... no problems whatsoever

The SPS one is a short "throw" shifter. The one you made is a short shifter because all you did was cut the shaft down. I got the short throw that Chris (www.chris97sc2.com) makes and it works great. It's a real easy install and just like stated above, its fun as hell to drive. I get comments all the time like, damn I didn't think they'd make that for a saturn and have it feel so good.

Herb, Kingstaki 99sl2, Patrick: Thanks for the help guys! I do have true short shifters available in several variations, and am offering new styles shortly. I also have taken delivery of black doeskin leather for custom boots, and will be offering custom boots soon (I am still working on getting the other materials and programming completed).

The old style SPS short shifter was simply cut down. Their new style ($189) short shifter is cut down, and the cable connection in the bottom shaft has been moved by 3/8" to improve the shift ratio front to rear(all of this info and photos are on my site). Their shifter does use the factory boot.

My true short shifters ($125-$175) are totally disassembled and reconditioned. Each shifter is built to order and %100 by myself. The pivot point is physically lifted by 1/2", while the lower shaft and side lever are both extended by 3/4". This makes for a much tighter shifter both side to side - and front to rear. My true short shifter can use a modified factory boot, or a custom one. I will be also offering an economy short shifter like someone's new style, but for much less money. If you are interested - visit my site http://www.chris97sc2.com

Even if you are not interested in purchasing a short shifter from me, please stop by and check out the info I have posted the SPS shifters. Thanks - Chris
