Hi all!
The SPC's 3rd Annual Summer Rally is going to kick off in Chicago on Tuesday, June 13th, 2000 and we've just received some GREAT news. It seems that Saturn will be officially attending the Rally. Not only that, they are going to bring BOTH of their One Lap of America cars (the yellow coupe and the LW2) along with other modified vehicles to our driver's school at Gingerman and RUN THEM ON THE TRACK. Additionally they are planning on bringing the Eye on Saturn or Window on Saturn (I always forget the proper name) camera team to highlight the Rally as well! The photographer for the crew actually asked if he could get some footage of 4-6 of us doing a burnout in a row.. Now that's my kind of Saturn video. If you've ever wanted to tell Saturn that you'd like to see more performance oriented vehicles, or just want to see the OLOA cars in person; the Rally is the time to do it! They will be bringing a host of tech/marketing people to the event as well. Just thought i'd pass the word along. If you'd like more info. on coming out to the Rally, please drop us a line at billdeebs@aol.com or check out: www.saturnperformanceclub.com. Thanks and look forward to seeing ya'all in just a few weeks!!

AWESOME! Saturn is really beginning to turn around! A year ago they wouldn't even pretend to be interested in performance, or in any of the Saturn clubs. I am very glad to hear they are finally looking at their cars as something more than a grocery grabbers. Wish I was going to be there, someone take a TON of pictures!

Bill or John (I still get confused),

I think it is great that the OLOA and Window on Saturn is coming out. BUT, I think in order to get the attention that is needed, you should involve the Retailers to get just regular people out to SEE what can be done. You already have a following and Saturn has seen us in Spring Hill for two years. BUT outside of Saturn Corp. and int othe main stream is what is needed, IMO.

I know how much attention I got the first time that I took my then 96 SL2 down to Spring Hill. Quite a few of the folks at Northfield came out and checked the car over. Also some took it out and drove it. AND as you probably know, it was not 'as equipped' as my 98 SL2. It seemed to work though, because the next year, 1998, SPS/SPC had the first trip to Spring Hill and the rest has been "performance" history.

I really want to get up to one of the Chicago events and will try for the June 15th. Unfortunately, my job does not always allow me to do what I want to do (:}

GOOD LUCK!
Al

Al,
We would like to participate with your group this summer also. Let me know when / if you are having a similar event and we will be there with our cars to "play" and listen to you.

Dang! I wish I lived closer to you guys! Any chance of having an event here in the New Orleans, Louisiana area? There is a local SCCA club here that autocrosses regularly.

Wazz,
When is the next time we can expect to see you all in the saturnchat again? That was great that you made it and many have let Saturn know that too. Drop me a direct email (adam@mysaturn.com) and we can discuss further coming to Sunny California for the next Battle of the Imports in September.
Why can't Saturn step up and pay to have you guys tour all of the retailers on a given weekend throughout the year. When you are not racing.

Is anything similar going to happen in the San Francisco / Silicon Valley area? How might I find out?

Has anyone heard anything about Saturn's offical attendance at SPC's 3rd Annual Summer Rally? I know Saturn was going to bring the One Lap of America cars and I think they were going to bring some other modified cars too. I'm curious to know what they brought!

rslux,
On the first weekend of September 2-3ish, their is a drag race, AutoX, dbsound off, lowridershow, carshow, burnout contest, Saturn gathering in Fontana CA. It's the Battle2000 feature event. As of my last count 11 Saturn's have already said they are making the trip. 2-3 of them are from San Jose.(www.turbosl2.com) Of coarse Saturn of San Diego will bring the dragster, and I'll have something unique to offer up too. Being this is a Jackson Racing Sponsored event, they are going to be very upset with me after they smell what I have cooking. Of the vehicles showing up 4 are forced induction cars, and 2 are non-street cars. Two are TOTAL Show car's with multiple trophys and mod to match.
If you can make the trip, it will be well worth it. For more info you can contact the guys at www.turbosl2.com or me at www.saturnclub.com or www.mysaturn.com

To whoever asked about how the Rally worked out with the Saturn OLOA cars...

Saturn rolled into our Rally Event at South Haven, Michigan with the yellow/black SC-2, the tannish/light brown LW-2, and a 2001 blackberry coupe. Mods list (as best we know/remember):

Yellow Coupe: 2.1L engine, cams, calibrated PCM, stock clutch, 99 or 2000 gearbox, straight cut 4th and 5th gears, Torsen limited slip differential, powerstack, custom 91-92 header retrofit, front strut tower brace (I think), 16x7" Lenso wheels, Carbotech Super Street F Compound pads, stock rotors, custom rear strut tower brace, Recaro seats up front, 5 or 6 point harnesses, 3 way 16.5 mm rear sway bar set on full hard, H&R Springs, Carerra housings, Koni 5 way adjustible cartridges, and probably a few more I've forgotten

LW-2: relatively stock vehicle, some exhaust modifications, a touch of opening up the exhaust ports if memory serves, some form of K&N

Blackberry 2001 coupe: nifty intake setup, Torsen (I think...), factory experimental 16x7" wheels, exhaust w/ mongo tip, harnesses/etc.

They proceeded to drive the living daylights out of ALL the vehicles; impressing a fair amount of the rest of the attendees throughout the day. Being generous souls, they also strapped most of us into the passenger seats for rides. Quite a show by Saturn team! While Ken "The Wazz" was not able to attend, Chris Berube, Chuck Taylor and John Heltman of their vehicle test team were; and I'd say they had a great time with us. One was reported to have quipped after watching a "borrowed" SL2 doing hot laps,"Man, you guys are HARD CORE." Quite nice to hear. My personal feeling is that they didn't expect as much track time as they got, and were thrilled to have it. Our sincerest thanks go out to Saturn Corporate and to Ken, Chris, Chuck and John for all the hard work they did to make this happen. We hope to see them, and all of you at next year's Rally!!
