In the most recent issue of AutoWeek, they reported that Dodge will put into production a version of the Neon SRT concept car. The SRT is a supercharged Neon putting out about 225 hp. The article said that the production car probably wouldn't have as much power as the concept car, but the production version would still have a substanial increase over the Neon R/T's 150 hp..
Do you ever get the feeling that we are being left behind? Wake up Saturn and start pumping up the POWER!!!

DVader,
Yes it is a shame but more HP is not IMO in Saturn's future. You will probably not see anything until GM puts "its" engines, in the next version of the "S" series.
Right NOW Saturn can add between 15 and 20 hp to the DOHC without any changes (except computer). With a few "minor" changes they can produce 160 hp.
BUT if GM let Saturn do this, then they can not SELL the engine that will be used in the Delta platform. If anyone thinks that Saturn has ANY control over what is happening then IMO they are mistaken. GM is in the final stages of totally swallowing Saturn.
Unfortunately, GM does not realize that Many/Most Saturn owners were NOT "GM" owners. They (as myself) were Toyota, Honda or some other foreign car owners. Remember when Saturn use to "brag" about those statistics?
The way to FORCE anyone/thing to one's way is to cut them off. GM has done this and is doing it. That is why Saturn has not produced more HP. It is there, but GM will not allow it.
Al
p.s. It seems that many of those here who support what is happening with Saturn/GM are GM car owners/supporters.
Al,
Is this without mods? I've been tempted to buy the 21hp kit from SPS, but if I can reprogram the PCM (for less), I'd rather do that.
Agreed. Saturn will not get any help until the move to the Delta platform. With any luck, it'll make for some great Saturns. Dunno what I'd do if Saturn completely 'goes south'.

i liked saturn in the early 90's the best, they were proud of what they were doing and had the "can do" attitude that so many american companys lack these days.
sad but true, they are being completly swallowed by g.m.
i think the l.s. was the first big mistake, opels never sold well in this country and i dont care whos name is badged on the side, its the stigma with opel.
secondly i would like to see saturn concentrate onb their own engines (i know, aunt happening) instead of the joint venture with honda.
just my 2 cents, joe
It seems to me that Saturn was more successful in the past. It had a vision and acted on it. It is time for a new vision and / or at least a refocus of that vision. With GM micro manageing it, Saturn has no vision whatever. It seems to have no clue where it is going or why. I expect that Saturn's advantage of dealers who care will be the next thing to go. Whn that happens Saturn can close up shop. The only one happy with that will be GM itself.

Back to the Neon Supercharger.
Let's not confuse this with the Paxton/Vortech Neon's found at the SEMA shows. This is a Eaton blower setup and our L850 engine alreay has the same set up. Yes, the difference is that they are going to produce it and we are going to have to wait, but Dodge already has multiple Supercharged vehicles, while GM is limited to Pontiac and a few high end applications. Personally, I would much rather have an aftermarket s/c over a POS roots type blower that's only making some 3lbs of boost. Don't get me wrong, this is an awesome deal, but I'll bet the car's going to be a major $$ problem for Dodge.

Pfff, there is no such thing as sport compact. Maybe sporty looking....Haha, seriously, Why make a concept car with those itty bitty numbers? So you mean to tell me that if I went out and bought an srt4 and put the mopar stage 3 upgrade kit on that, i'd have a better and faster car then the concept!? Shiot, count me in, as long as I can brag about how my car is better then the concept. Booooooo Bad move on mopar end!
Also, I just read in a recent article that the new charger (or is it challenger?) that is coming out will have the 5.7L hemi in 2005. So for all the mopar fans that thought the new charger would own all cars, i'll laugh now, because dodge has another thing comin with the 05 GTO. Can you say LS2?

No joke... 4 years is the longest record ive ever saw!
And the SRT-4 is sweet... cpet that its a turbo... guess they knew the SC sucked.

sure SC are great cuz they make power from idel to what ever.. but turbo gives you the option for power change on the fly .

s/c takes power to make it.
turbo is 95% free power.

Ummm, the SRT-4 is 230hp stock, so thats more than the concept car mentioned above. Stage 3 is good for 310hp and 325ft-lbs on pump gas and 355hp and 350ft-lbs on race gas. http://www.mopar.com/street/products_srt4_stage3.htm. I dont think I understand your post. Mopar is doing some amazing things when you consider the upgrades for the SRT-4 that are available right now. But again, I dont think I understand your post.
And the base charger and 300c will have the 5.7l Hemi, but the SRT-8 versions will have a 6.1l Hemi good for 425hp and 420ft-lbs. But the charger isn't coming to showrooms until 06 and isn't a GTO competitor. It is basically a 300c rebadged as a Dodge. It is the Intreped replacement. Base motor will be the 3.5L v-6, with the hemi as an option, so it is aimed at being a family car.

Right, well, should the concept car be better looking and more powerful than a car you can pick up at any dealership? So that would make it a bad move on mopar's end.

I guess it depends on how close to production they were making it. If when they were drawing up the car they decided to make it 220hp,then made a 220hp concept car and then built a 230hp car (the 03 power rating), I dont see how it is a bad move.
The point of a concept car is to get the idea out there to see how the public responds and if it is a viable car. It obvoisly worked in this case. The car was built, built well I might add, and has been very popular.

Monkey's right...you don't want a concept car that is rated at 400 hp and 450 tq only to have something that is going to be 200 or 230...it's too much hype then sales won't be as high...now if they try to get their vision out and be pretty realistic in it (sure they can say it might be 250 or 300 and then decide that those are too high for the base before stages then ok)....
