With the SL1's its kinda hard to do any major fun stuff... however the biggest improvement for the least amount is to either get a K&N drop in air filter, or go with an Iceman/Powerstack. Check out www.saturnmotorsports.com or www.spswebpage.com
Both have many upgrades, but like I said before, your much more limited with the '1' after that SL part. The other thing you can do it get a better muffler. mabey ome headers, 2" exhaust. But if you go that route, your changing the operating sweet spot of the engine. The 1's are low end torque, add the muffler and headers/exhaust and you raise the sweet spot of the engine say 500-1000 rpm's... then again if you've rev'd that engine up there you know the power drops of the face of the planet at about 4k revs...
I had a 93 SL1 myself and tried to do stuff like that... (before they did the injection on that engine) now i have a rev happy 92 SL2 8O)
hope it helps

In my 92 SL I can feel it actualy kick in a bit at 4000rpms. I noramlly shift about 4000rpms all the time. I can tell you this that there is alot more pull in second and third though, I can almost hit 60mph in 3rd and about 80 or so in 4th. I have never had it faster than 95mph though.

One of the best things you can do it put underdrive pulleys on. Too date this is one of the best bang for $$ products that you can buy (and I have alot of motor mods!!). Next I'd recomend a good cat-back exhaust with an intake. I know they don't actually make intakes for our car, but with a little modification you can make one work nicely!! I have directions on my web site along with alot of pictures. Check out my web site to get ideas, plus its a good place to see what can be done. And if you see anything you like, feel free to give me an e-mail. I'm always glad to held fellow SOHC'ers out.
