For those who need to know what all those strange abbreviations we use mean, but are too embarassed to ask..just a few of the ones you will see on these boards and what they (we) mean

ECTS...... Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor
EGR....... Exhaust Gas Recirculating
IAT ...... Intake Air Temperature (Sensor)
VSS...... Vehicle Speed Sensor
TPS...... Throttle Position Sensor
PCM...... Powertrain Control Module
WOT ....... Wide Open Throttle
ALDL ..... Assembly Line Data Link
TPS..... Throttle Position Sensor
MAP.... Manifold Absolute Pressure (Sensor)
IAC .... Idle Air Control (Valve)
OBD1... On Board Diagnostic 1
OBD2... On Board Diagnostic 2
GND ... Ground (negative battery power)
POS.... Positive (Positive battery power)
TSS... Turbine Speed Sensor (automatic transaxles only)
TFTS... Transaxle Fluid Temperature Sensor (Autotrans only)
WSS... Wheel Speed Sensor (ABS cars)
NOT... Normal Operating Temperature
CAT ... Short for Catalitic convertor
TBI... Throttle Body Injected
MPI... Multi Port Injected (aka: MPFI)
SPI... Sequential Port Injected (aka: SMPI, SMPFI)
PCV .... Positive Crankcase Ventilation
CCPS.... Carbon Canister Purge Solenoid
CPS.... Crankshaft Position Sensor
DIS.... Distributorless Ignition System
RTV ... "Room Temperature Vulcanization" A fancy name
for silicon form a gasket

And a few more common ones:

PDL .... Power Door Locks
PW.... Power Windows
PS..... Power Steering
RKE.... Remote Keyless Entry
ABS.... Antilock Braking System
ATF.... Automatic Transmission Fluid
TC..... Traction Control
CC.... Cruise Control

CKP= CranKshaft Position sensor
CMP= CaMshaft Position sensor
TWC=Three Way Catalyst (aka the CAT)
TCC= Torque Converter Clutch

TDC- top dead center (used when talking about the #1 piston is at its highest point on its compression stroke)

CAI = Cold air intake
HID = High Intensity Discharge

SOHC = Single OverHead Camshaft
DOHC = Dual OverHead Camshafts, also called "Twin Cam"

still missing BCM. I don't know if that's a term used by all Saturn (or even GM???) cars. I never heard it till I owned my L-Series

BCM = Body Control Module

whats R&I vs. R&R?(i think it has to do with book time)
