Thanks for participating!

Every car in my family has ALWAYS been called "Betsy." I have no idea why, my dad came up with it. However, since we have two cars, both "named Betsy," I came up with something a little more original; Saturn, "Betsy Beige", and the Taurus, "Betsy Blue." OTOH, I call the Saturn my "Puppy" (as I do my nephew, and our actual dog). :D :p

I've named my cars in the past...
Had a '72 Lincoln Continental, (460 cu" engine, power everything), named it 'The Battleship'. Kind of self explanatory there. ;)
Then owned a Datsun, named that 'Francis the Mule', (you'll need to see the old '40s comedy films about Francis to get the 'flavor'), it was as cantankerous as one!.
But I haven't named my Saturn yet.. not enough apparent quirks have surfaced for me to get a fix on one. :D

1996 SL1: my Saturn
1997 SL2: chris's Saturn

2003 ION: Ion
As you can see, we don't really name them. These names are pretty standard though around the house ;)

My cars aren't named either, but since 1996, when we got our SL2, we just called it "The Saturn." Now we have two Saturns and I'm confused. Which one now is "The Saturn?"
From habit, the old green 1993 SL2 seems to remain as "The Saturn." My new black Quad Coupe3 is now either referred to "The Black Saturn" or as simply, "The Quad," because of that word near the back side windows. But neither of those really seem to fit yet, kind of like how it took awhile for the term "September 11th" or "9-eleven" to stick. I guess I haven't had it long enough for us to settle on a name yet.

In keeping with my tradition, I decided to name my orange VUE Clementine.

'93 SL2 was "Goldie"
'97 SC1 was "Blue"
'97 SC1 was "Gray" (replacement for Blue)
'99 VUE is "Clementine" (a variety of orange)

My 95 SL2 is named Max. I originally wanted to name him Rafiki after the baboon in The Lion King, but my best friend who was with me when I bought him and when he was launched said he looked like a Max, so technically his name is Max Rafiki. I just call him Max.

Within the family we've just always called our cars by the people who drove them or by their respective makes. "It's in dad's truck...go park the Jeep...move the Buick!!!...etc"
But I always liked giving my car a name just as well...
My first car (Buick Skyhawk) was named the "Ericprise" (think Enterprise from Star Trek)
My second car (Saturn SL1) wasn't named until just a couple weeks ago after I had owned it for three years :whoa: I decided it looked like a "Jake" to me and I also named it after the boy named Jake from the Dark Tower book series :p .
My third car (Saturn Ion) I'm thinking of naming "Onyx" because it I think the color scheme looks like some sort of rock structure with the black body, grey roof rails, and grey interior (and I suppose I'm also naming it after the pokemon :D ).
p.s. which is the correct spelling...grey or gray???

Yep. Named her "Rogue". Had another name in mind at first, but I don't remember it anymore. She's black with the grey roof rails, kind of like Rogue from X-Men with her dark hair and the grey stripe in her bangs. Plus, X-Men? Totally cool.

I've always named all my cars.
The Old-As-Me chevy Wagon was named "Old Faithful" because it never broke beyond dad's repair.
My first Taurus was "Tortice" because of the slow transmission.
My van was the "Animevan" for the Big Doors, like the big eyes of anime characters.
Second Taurus was "Tricky" - tricky transmission this time.
Saturn - Unnamed yet because I am waiting for her to give me a name. She has a totem animal though, a bear. Most of my friend's cars have a totem animal. Kpendrgn's totem animal for her '98 black SC2 is a shark, and her MR2 is a fox.

I usually name my cars...
My Dakota was "Rebel" since it was a southern truck in Mass...
The Ford truck "Tenneessee Tank" since that's where I am and what it feels like when you drive that beast....
The Shadow was "Firebird" but since then it's gotten some nice 4-letter names....
The Saturn is "Replay" since she's been totalled at least once, almost sold for scrap (when I picked her up) and always manages to get back on the road somehow or another.

My SW2 is named Violet, as she's Silver Plum. My old one was named "Greenie", because well, she was Green, and I remembered the old David Bowie song, "Jean Genie", where he says, "Poor Little Greenie", and it just stuck. Greenie was also known as the "Beer Wagon" for other reasons!

I have names for all four of our vehicles.
The Saturn's name is P.A.T.B. An acronym for Pinky and the Brain. A cartoon that was pretty popular when I got the car. She is my first car with a computer (Brain) and also the license plate was a series of letters that spelled out one of the wacky things Pinky always said for no particular reason... So then, I decided to call her Pinky and the Brain. Then shortened it to PATB.
When we got the minivan, I knew what he would be used to do. He would be towing PATB, so I named him Toby (Tow PATB). :D
Then James got his yellow Dakota and I bought him a little stuffed Woodstock for him. So his name is Woodstock. He's the smaller version of the Dodge truck and yellow. Makes sense to us.
Lastly, we bought a Red Dodge Ram last week. Her name is The Red Baron (Snoopy's arch nemisis). James picked out the name. Since I named the other 3 vehicles, I thought it a good deed to let him name the Baron. Sometimes I call her Baroness... But either way, you can tell we love the Peanuts (might as well rename PATB to Peppermint Patty, right?), we love our vehicles, and most of all, we're totally nuts referring to our vehicles by name and associating them with gender.. But all in good fun!

Both are correct. One is the British/English spelling (grey) and the other is the American/English spelling (gray).
Kind of like Humor versus Humour. Colour verses Color. Honor versus Honour. I use a lot of British/English spelling for no particular reason other than it looks pretty in print...

Wife's Saturn (Vue) is named Otto, after the Syracuse mascot hanging from the back window. My Mazda (626) is named Ike, after the last three letters of the license plate.

My Truck
So, technically no, I did not name my cars. The only one that had a nickname was my '89 Sunbird, with was simply called "The Funbird." And no, the car was not very much fun, other than it had a sunroof. I guess I should have kept calling it Sunbird when it wasn't referred to as "My car." The one that should have been called "Funbird" was my '86 Sunbird GT. It wasn't as fun to drive as my Saturn is, but it was a fun little car.

As you can see, my car is "The Katmobile." The SL used to be called that, but the airbrushed license plate bearing the name has since been transferred. The SL no longer has a name, just "the SL," "my red car," "my old car," or "the dead one."
When talking to my brother, my cars are "the SC" and "the SL." When talking to my mom, they're "the purple one" and "the red one" or "the new one" and "the old one," because she can never remember which is C and which is L!

I think I'll call my oldest son's 95SL2 either "Rings and Dings" or "Dings and Rings".
The car could use new rings for an oil consumption problem and he has a tendency to inadvertently redesign body panels and bumpers.

My 1993 Chevy Corsica was called Phil, after Phil Collins (my fav. singer).
I called my 1994 Honda Civic the Righteous Fire... not sure why honestly.
My mom's '92 Ford Econoline van is called Behemoth for obvious reasons.

I thought long and hard about this. I have an '01 SC1 and it's my first Saturn, so I thought its name should be appropriate. I decided "it" is definitely a "he." He has a tendency to get me into trouble and he never seems to want to mind. He has two personalities. A calm and relaxed 4-banger who gets me to where I want to go, but flip the coin and he's ready to take on his Japanese brethren. I decided, then, that he would be Janus. Janus was the Roman God of gates and doors and is represented by a double-faced head. He's also the name's sake for the sixth moon of Saturn :D

Damian SC1
11-09-2004, 05:17 PM
I named him Damian. Two things I've desperately wanted in my life were named Damian: a horse (when I was 14) and a singer.
I saw my car in a used lot when I was unemployed, and fell in love with it. I made a silent promise to myself that I would find a job, and buy a car just like that. I found a job a month later. Time went by, and the car had been sold. After I had enough money to buy a car, I went by and saw that this car has RETURNED to the lot. The previous owner defaulted on the loan and it was repo'ed. Damian came back to me! I bought him on the spot, and it's been a love-hate relationship ever since.

I never named the Saturns I have owned.
The only two cars that ever had names were both 1977 Ford Granada's.
The first one burned oil like there was no tomorrow. You could see the smoke cloud for miles. It was called "The Valdese"
The other 77 Granada ran great but the previous owner put it over an embankment. There was not a straight body panel on it and it had two different tail lamps. It had no rust but no undented panels. Even the roof and hood were dented...(I have no idea how she did that.) That one was called "The Beast."
Other than that... nope.
Well, I do unofficially call my wife's 98 Caravan "The Great Purple Slug" but she gets uh.. irritated... when I do.

I love this thread, it's like the Energizer bunny....
I've had my 04 Vue Red Line (first one sold in DFW, possibly all of TX, that I know of) for almost a year now. I had my old '91 Toyota pickup, "Gina" for 8.5 years, and so I have thought long and hard about what to name the Vue... I could never think of anything that really seemed to fit, maybe because she's so unique, I just can't put a label on her.
Before we got the Vue, my g/f and I would refer to our vehicles as "the Saturn" (she has an '02 SL2), and "the truck" (aka Gina, but the g/f doesn't really get that)... When I got the Vue, it became "the truck", "the SL2" (hers is nameless!), and "the Vue".
Well, her car is still nameless, but my Vue, I am proud to say, finally has a name. Really odd way of coming about a name for a car... I had a dream, about a month ago, that I was hanging out with DJ, aka OhioVueBoy, in person nonetheless, and we were talking about Fremont, his Vue, and I was lamenting my Vue's lack of name. He then said "You should name her Willow." It seemed rather odd at the time, but now it seems to have stuck, so now my Vue is named Willow (which is good, because I have a thing for redheads and I used to love Buffy the Vampire Slayer).
Willow the RL Vue, may we have many years and hundreds of thousands of miles and smiles together. YAY! I love my Vue! :)

My car's name is Trinity.
I apparently said my email address to someone one day, while I was around her, and she liked it. I kept hearing the name trinity in my head when i asked her for a name, and i kept throwing it off because I like the name so much, i thought i was saying that name in my head.
Until I asked a friend one day what she thought her name should be. She said:
"She likes the name Trinity."
UHm, OKAY THEN! Trinity it is! It wasn't me after all.

I called my silver '97 SL 1 the "Silver Ghost". I have yet to name my Ion.

I think i'm the first generation to name my car, although I did know my grandfather had the usual "Betty" for his car. I named my Black 2002 L200 'Jasper' after my favorite city in Georgia. No doubt it's Jasper's favorite as well, we end up there quite a bit. Not to mention it sounds southern!

My 2000 SL has two "Z"'s in the license plate, hence, "Ziggy" (or "Izzy" depending on which member of the family you ask, since small Logan has trouble pronouncing g's)

my dad's reaction to my '97 SW2 was "it looks like a peanut on wheels!"
so it's now called "Peanut"

When I had my Saturn (:( i miss him) I called him Dragon. I had dragon stuff in it like floor mats, dice, steering wheel cover. It suited the car. :)

My wife's 92 SL1 was named "Blue" and now since she has the new '05 VUE his name is "Blue 2"
Hopefully Saturn #3 will be here soon....

I'm thinking my 2002 SC2 looks like a Pokemon character.

We call our VUE the "Suvee" because it's not a car and it's not a truck.
It doesn't sound right to say "I'm taking the car" or "I'm taking the truck" to the grocery store :)

I inherited my wagon from my grandmother, so I named it in memory of her: 'Vi', short for Violet.

Mine's the Binkymobile. i was thinking something like "Binky Cruiser" at first, like my own version of the Toyota Land Cruiser or PT Cruiser. i originally called my wife's SL1 that but found that it suited mine better so i took it back. The way i see it is Batman has his Batmobile, so Binky has his Binkymobile. It was Lorie who gave me the name "binkybaby" and her love for Saturns rubbed off on me lol. i even got custom plates. :)

I think it's cool that you got the plate for your Vue too. I got my new plate about a month and a half ago. Now everyone knows who Willow belongs to:

Wow, it's been 2 years and 2 cars since I last replied in this thread. I've got two pet names for my L300. The first one is "V6SattyL" which I thought of when I first got the car. The second is "Black Saturn." I call the car that because the last time I was at a particular car wash, the guy locked my keys in the car and he came out yelling "Black Saturn? Black Saturn?" (read thread "Thank God for the wallet key").

Our little Saturn SL2 is "Booger Red" Guess cause she's fire engine red (i'm sure there's an actual name for the color from Saturn) but our son got it from watching WWE- The Undertake & Booger Red...
We've named all of our cars... last one was a 99 Sentra "Betsy the Road B*tch". Wife had an 85 Maxima that was "Nelly The Nag" because it had one of those computer voices that would repeat "Fuel level is low, Right door is open, check engine"

Yes, I've alsways named my cars (at least the good ones) after my mother who's nick-name was " Q".
My 2003 Vue is named Q5 aka, Q Cinco.
This car has special meaning sbeing that my mother passed away in January.

Actually, I've caught myself calling my ION "ION" (but it's pronounced like "EON"...don't ask why).

I've named the '91 several times. At first it was "my car" because I had a truck before I got the Satty (my first actual car). Then it was "Mean Green" for obvious reasons. Changed it to "Green Thunder" after I got my hellaciously loud exhaust put on. Can hear from 1/2 mile away or more. I've tested it with friends. Now it's simply "Jaded." Jade is my daughter's middle name, the SL2 is green, and it stuck. I'm getting LXI JDE put on as custom plates soon, and "Jaded" is being put on the windshield.

Cleo, cause I can't decide if it's male or female (or both on alternate days). Could be short for Cleothus, or Cleopatra-often acts tough & other times sweet.

well I WAS gonna name mine Indigo, for the color, but I decided on "Nightshade"
It sounds cooler.
After my Jeep (284K miles) started to have tranny problems, my wife said "enough is enough" and I had to get rid of it. I drive 60k miles a year and the gas alone was killing us. The repair cost were beginning to rise as well.
We looked at several cars models and brands.
Of those we looked at the L200 had:
The best safety rating
The best gas milage
I was able to fit comforatbly (I'm 6'4")
Affortable pricing
I did not pay any attention to the styling or even the color. We bought it strictly for the comfort, safety and economy.
I did end of naming it "Spock"
for logical reasons.

Charlie,
Mine is 'FROG' - Four Rolling On d' Ground) as it is my 'towed behind' my MOHO. Since it has the permanent tow brackets (old style, not the new fancy removables) and they stick out like horns, I guess you could say it is a 'Horny Toad'!! :D
