Does your Saturn have leather seats? Why did you -- or didn't you -- choose to get them?

I traded in my 2000 LW1 and upgraded to the 2002 LW300 with the Premium Package along with the automatic temperature control. I figure you only live once so go for it. I thought why not treat myself, after all I am going on 49. What the heck!
I use my car for business and can be in and out of the car a number of times in a given day. I always noticed that my back felt cold right down the middle no matter what I am wearing in the cool weather. I find that the heated seats take away that chill, even at this time of year.
I also have found that the leather is much more comfortable than the cloth seats in my previous Saturn. :)
I cannot understand why some cars are not available with heated leather in our climate. This includes the Ion and the S Series. Correct me if I am wrong, but I do not think the Ion leather is heated. :hmpf:

I don't have my 93 SL2 anymore but I got it with leather. When I worked for an auto dealership and had to move vehicles around, I found that I liked leather. Leather works especially well with dress pants. I like the ability to move and slide around on leather. That is a big advantage on long trips. Cloth will not let you slide around in your seat easily. I used to think this was a useless expense but I found that I loved it. Now my entire family buys vehicles with leather seats after riding with me in my Saturn with leather seats. :flag:

I hear the being talked out of it thing...
People think that being in HAWAII is crazy to have leather. Let me tell you, there is no better way from what my freinds have told me with their BMWs, Lexus and Mercedes...
My next Saturn will have leather and a friggin sunroof!!!

leather has not been high on my list of priorities when buying a car. Though one day leather will carress my butt in a Saturn. This I swear.

The only reason that I have leather is that I bought from stock and the only SC2m with the options I wanted also had leather. As much as I enjoy it (especially when a friend gets in my car for the first time and says, "Wow, leather seats?!" :p ), I don't neccessarily need it on my next Saturn.
It's proven to be a practical option too. I had a leaky bottle of milk in the back seat (didn't know it was leaking of course ;) ) and, by the time I got home, there was a puddle of milk on the seat bottom. I was able to clean it off the surface of the seat without any problems. If I had cloth, the milk would have soaked into the fabric and seat cushion which I would have had to replace since I'm not fond of the smell of sour milk.

I have cloth. My neighbor had leather and always has to keep his windows open in the summer so the seats don't get too hot. Many a time he has left his window's or sun roof open to keep the car cools and it rain's. What a mess.

I've never had a car with leather, I don't really need it, plus I could never justify the extra cost, that and I've owned nothing but used cars up until this point. But I've driven my dad's Taurus which does, and a Chrysler Concorde rental car that did, and while neither had the great lateral grip of my SW2's seats, they were nice and comfy, and I didn't slid too much, nor did I have any trouble with temperatures. But of course, my dad's car is all tan so it doesn't absorb the heat, and the car warms up quickly enough in the winter, because it has climate control. But the Concorde really surprised me as it had "almost black" leather, but was white on the outside. We had this car in Florida, and it wasn't bad at all, get the A/C going, it was great. Not to mention, the Concorde had killer legroom and a huge trunk!

My car was given to me. Eventually, when I refinish the interior, it will leather seats, or possibly race seats if they are really cheap (and weigh less than leather).

mine came with leather (I wanted the yellow exterior so bad I didn't care if it was cloth or leather) and I love it! No spills yet so I can't comment on that, but a towel thrown over the seat prevents the burned hamstrings :)

I like the leather in the Ion, even though it is not high quality leather and it is not heated. However, for $700 for all seats it is a pretty good price and I find them to be more comfortable than cloth.
Another bonus is the leather trimmed steering wheel, doors, shift knob, which are all nice to have and match the car really well.
I'm glad I have this option and plan on having leather seats on future cars as well if possible.

This is my first car with leather seats, and now that ive had them, i wont go back to cloth. The heated seats are also a giant perk.

This is not only my 1st Saturn (The best car I've ever owned - an L200 with the premium package) --- But also my 1st car with Leather. I truly love it -- How it feels, how it looks... and how it smells. It looks fantastic (Black leather against the burgundy car) and the seat heaters are incredible here in new england. They heat up before the car does in the winter.

It took me 8 months to find a good used SW2 with a 5-speed; do you think I was going to quibble over not having leather interior?
My Cougar has the leather, though, and an 8-way power seat. That thing rules. I think I'll get it from here on out...

I have used Saturn (1992 Coupe, 180,000 miles) I got from my sister. No leather...but it did have a factory installed CD player that is getting kind of old.

I bought a used 1992 SL2 and it had leather, power windows and power mirrors, moonroof and that silly little wing on the back.
My wife was afraid that it had an automatic, and that she would have to kill me. She HATES automatics. She hates cruise control, too, but that she can ignore.
Anyway, the car is medium red and the leather is tan. I really can't see any other color that I'd want than tan in leather. We don't seem to have inordinalte problems with temperature, and this is definately a state with extremes: Minnesota.

Well, I had a 1973 Red Corvette that had leather seats. I am in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and we have all kinds of weather. I did not have A/C as I did not believe at that time that sports cars had such options. I loved the tan leather seats and would certainly choose them where I had the option.
When I went looking for a 91 to 96 SC2 I had a very hard time finding anything decent for what I could afford. I ended up buying a 94 red SC2 that has all options except air and disc/anti-lock brakes. 120,000 km's ... that is to say 72,000 miles. No leather seats either though ... would be nice ... !
Cobat Blue Ions with a 5 speed aren't common here in western canada. I would have been more than willing to take a Cobalt Blue Ion.3 with leather, however I settled on the C.Blue Ion.2 in the show room.

the easiest way to counter-act the hot summer leather effect is a nice dark window tint all around.
my black ION with leather is cooler on a 90 degree day than my red SL was, just because of the tint...

I have cloth in the 1994 SL2. My 1997 was aftermarket leather and my first & second Saturn SL2s were cloth as well.
Never sprung for leather on a Saturn since I'm too cheap to spend that kind of change on a new car. When I buy used cars, I tend to get the luxury brand and always get the leather.

No the reason why is because over time it begins to crack even doing a conditioner seems as if it makes it worse especially in hot weather

leather looks nice but you tend to slide around a bit, and when it gets very hot not all that comfortable.
I prefer Cloth.

I have leather seats in mine. After 143,000 miles they still look brand new. They do get hot, but at least they are tan, and not BLACK!!! My Jeep has gray vinyl seats, and those things get REAL hot.

Personally, I don't find the leather that bad when I drive to hot climates, even though it's black. *Vinyl* seats, on the other hand, *those* were murder in the head.

Vinyl seats would never last. I have never sat on such a car seat that would get so hot. Leather seat get nowhere near as hot as vinyl.

Of the nine Saturns I have had 2 have had leather...My 94 Pearl Homecoming and my 01 10th Anniversary edition. Leather really does nothing for me. I'll say I liked the half leather half cloth of the Homecoming Sedan best.

Did base Saturns every come with Vinyl seats? I noticed that a lot imports use to put vinyl's in the base cars. I remember a friend's late 90's Tercel having vinyl seats.

No! Summers are very hot in South Texas. Unless, I want to slide myself off the seat with a spatula, I will never have leather seating in any of my cars---Saturns included!

Leather would be nice, but so far I'm comfortable with cloth. Cloth seats feel VERY NICE in hot weather after you've been in an air-conditioned office all day. Ahhhhhhhh! I can feel my muscles relax!

Yes, I have leather, and for that privilidge, the cow bites back. In the ATL, it tends to get hot, and leather, while it looks good, doesn't feel good when the temperature in the car is 120 degrees. Those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, observe this the next time you prepare breakfast: a bit of oil on a hot skillet, that "sizzeling" sound: heat, oil and skin! Thats the experience I most associate with leather. The REDLINE VUE has suede inserts, that lessens the effect, but make no mistake, you feel the heat. Don't laugh. The guy wearing driving gloves in the summer is essentially wearing automotive oven mits. Grab that hot leather wraped steering wheel, and touch 120 degrees, remembering to hang on to it while it cools off!

My current vehicle, a 1999 Buick LeSabre Custom has leather. I love it!
This is the 1st auto that I've owned(only owned 2 others) :) that has leather.
I'm pricing out a new 2006 Vue, and there are only two options (as of right now) that I'm adding to it; LEATHER and the upgraded MP3 CD player.
The one thing I've come to know about it is that it's easy to keep clean. You can get some leather conditioner/wipes and it looks close to new.
Also, it's great for those times when you are WET (i.e. leaving amusement park or swimming) as the water just repels right off of it.
As some other people mentioned, the trick to not getting "burned" is to have tinted windows. I've never gotten burned by heat, but . . . I've gotten "fried" by coldness in the winter. Let it get about 30 degrees outside, open your door and plop down on that seat -- you'll be saying "Yow!" real quick. LOL
Even with that minor issue in winter, I prefer it over cloth, now that I've got it. The LeSabre has ruined me as far as leather goes. . .
To me, the one-time cost of ~$700 isn't that bad at all. It's well worth it.
:)
