Have you ever been caught speeding in your Saturn? What happened?

Yes, 44mph in a 30, stupid speed trap, didn't go on my record but I was fined $86

yeah you are screwed...the insurance thing you can get taken off if you show proof you were insured at the time...if you can get someone to show or say that the tint was done before you owned the car, then that is also not a problem. the speeding you just have to suck it up. depending on the state and the type of officer who pulled you over, you're looking at 300-700 dollars and/or probably some kind of community service.

Never, my dark green SL1 sedan is invisible. I've been caught speeding on a road near my parents where I grew up, but all I got was a warning flash of the overhead lights!

The last speeding ticket I got was when I had a red car (Datsun), hmmm.

I've never gotten a speeding ticket in my RED SC2. I regularly drive 70-80mph on the tollways around here (posted is 55), and 5-10 over on any other road. I guess that I'm lucky and should be a little more careful before my luck runs out. Because if I do get pulled over, the friendly police officer is also going to write a fix-it ticket for my naturally swiss cheesed muffler.

The poll is have you ever been caught speeding in your Saturn and then you ask have you ever gotten a ticket in your Saturn. Getting caught does not always mean getting one though.

Yes, in the summer of 1991 in my 1991, brand new. Fortunately a buddy of mine stopped me :p

I was saved two times. Once on the highway I was only going 10-12 miles or so over the speed limit and saw the lights, so I changed lanes over and was pulling over on the shoulder. Then out of nowhere a Porche going I don't know how fast flies by both me and the cop behind me.

It was like the cop looked at me, looked at the Porche and roared off after him. I was stunned for a minute, then drove the speed limit to where I was going.

A second time I was on the street and went speeding through a yellow/red light and a cop was right on me and I pulled over into the next parking lot.

Once again some nut races through and was going way faster than the speed limit and the cop went after this guy as well!

Both incidents were about 5 years apart. I answered no to the poll, but both those times I was dead to rights and it was only the extreme stupidity of others that saved me tickets both times.

I was robbed. 57 in a 45 zone, at 2:30 AM, coming home from a movie on a Tuesday night. NO traffic at all.

2:30 in the morning! I think a warning would have sufficed in that situation...

I've had enough speeding tickets to have my license suspended twice! Most of them were in my medium red SL2 so I think it may have been the color that got the officers' attention. I shouldn't even tempt bad luck by saying that, in the two years I've had my green SC2, I haven't gotten a speeding ticket yet..... and I normally drive about 15 mph over the limit.

The most memorable stop was in, of course, my SL2. After the cop had me sign the citation, he stepped back and looked over my car and said, "This is a real nice car, do you like it?"..... seeing that I had nothing else to lose, I replied, "yeah, it's pretty fast." :D

I guess I am the lame one; I follow the rules. I usually go one mile over the limit at most, with cruise. (This is because my speedometer is 0.6 mph off, so I guess I am not speeding anyway.) Even at 2:30am when there is no traffic!

The only speeding experience I had resulted in no ticket, and it wasn't even in a Saturn, but it was enough to calm me down.

within the first two weeks of purchasing my 92 sc i found out what 124 mph was like. luckily i was slowed down to about 70-80 mph when the cop saw me. he couldn't tell how fast i was really going so he wrote me up for 60 in a 55 mph zone. d'oh!

Due to the nature of my job, I had to go into the office at midnight the night Swissair Flight 111 crashed. (Sept 2, 98). At 3 AM, I was driving home in my 98 SC-2 manual. As I was going through town, and a cop caught me at 39 in a 25 as I was mindlessly working my way through the gears. She cut me no slack. I went to court, and the judge knocked the fine down to $10 (from $80) with no points.

I answered NO as I haven't been stopped for any reason since buying my VUE.

I was pulled over once in the speedtrap known as Boyd during my ownership of the orange SC2. The cop tried to tell me that I was doing 50 in a 35, despite sitting right in sight of a 45 sign. He then pointed out that I was still doing 50, to which I told him that I knew that and had overshot the speed and was already slowing back down when he lit me up. He let me leave.

Worst stop was in my neighbours SL1. North Texas Motor Speeway was having a race event, and the Ft. Worthless Police department was doing its level best to top their previous level of ineptness from the last event. I pulled off to the side of the road to ask about where I needed to go so that my neighbour and I could continue on the way to work. The "officer" (I'll be polite here), proceeded to throw a huge tantrum for having to leave his "spot" and walk over to us. While doing this, he started shouting out to everybody that he needed a ticket book as he intended to write citations.

This of course got BOTH me and my neighbour ticked off enough that we were angrily discussing what this idiots problem was loudly between ourselves, using the usual hothead language. The "officer" then actually had the gall to be "offended" by our anger and language, DESPITE us not saying a single word TO him while he was writing his BS tickets. He wrote two - one for ignoring a traffic control device, and one for travelling down the wrong side of the road - both of which were total BS tickets, and were dismissed so quickly by the court - along with every single other ticket written by that "officer" to other drivers that day - that even the courts seemed to not take the "officer" seriously. :dizzy:

My most interesting slew of stops came shortly after buying my 3/4 ton truck. I kept being pulled over for the most nitpicky of alleged violations. Every single officer kept asking me if the truck was my truck - AFTER taking my paperwork and license. I never received a ticket from any of those stops. I guess there must be some unwritten law stating that younger people aren't suppopsed to have nice things. :ugh:

In California, as long as you travel with the flow of traffic, chances are you will never get a ticket. Most freeways are 65 mph. Most traffic travels about 70 mph. On highway 15, that runs from Southern California to Los Vegas, through the desert, speeds of 85 or 90+ mph or not uncommon. Of course, lots of people die on 15. So far I have not been stopped for speeding, the secret is to blend in with traffic.

Well let's see. Yes I've been caught speeding. Both times on a holiday-1st Memorial Day and then the same year July 4th. Same road, going different directions got pulled over within 20 yards of each stop.

Both times I shouldn't have been in town on that road. Oh they had me dead to rights with speeding. I was guilty. But both times I only got a warning.

I think I was lucky it happened on holidays. On memorial day I was so fed up by the time I got pulled over I would have paid the fine and shrugged the day off as one of those "nothing is going right for me days". The alternator on my '96 Green SL2 had died 2 miles from my house at 4 am. I'd had it towed 50 miles to the closest Saturn dealer and 7 hours later was racing back to town to make sure my daycare was going to have something to eat for lunch when I get pulled over 1 mile from the daycare.

On the 4th of July I got pulled over again. I was off from work so I shouldn't have even been there but I just HAD to run by the office for one little item. I was lucky the only other police officer in that small town was on duty or I definitely would have gotten fined!

I've only been pulled over once. The fuzz had a report of a "grey Saturn 2-door in a hit and run at a near-by mall". I was taking a turn quickly and he followed me and pulled me over. I thought I was speeding or ran the light or something. Turns out he just wanted to check to see if my car was damaged. I was tempted to say that I have a 3-door coupe and not a 2-door but decided not to try it. Nice guy though.

Not on either Saturn. A couple of years ago got a ticket for not coming to a complete stop. The cops in Tarrytown , N.Y do this is 2 spots each month: 1. going to the Metro North station (I was dropping my wife off) and near their Resivor. They are there ALWAYS at the middle of every month. I didn't come to a 100% stop he said. He new the ticket was a cheapie. I didn't have time to fight but the ticket couldn't be read but I was told no leg to stand on. They sent me a copy. I requested a statement from the officer on the infraction. I decieded to pay sent the fine and license. They never marked my license with the infration and sent no receipt. I called and asked them to send me one. The lady kept bugging me on the time and cost for them having to send me the materials. At least I made them work for it. I had 1 speeding ticket and one red light and this. My insurance never went up. I usually do 5 - 9 mph over the limit and stay with the pack.

The poll said "caught speeding" then the topic said got a ticket. I have never recieved a ticket. However, I was pulled over about three years ago, a day before I began my employment at WPD...needless to say, I didn't get a ticket....I was very lucky. 60 in a 45.

I've only recieved one ticket, and that was when I was 17...I was going 85 in a 55 in my Maxima. Man, do I regret that one =)

$145.00 fine only, talked to the DA, she felt bad for me because I only had my license for a few months.

Nope, I haven't. Only time I speed is when it is unsafe to drive the limit due to faster traffic flow. Fortunately, that doesn't happen much where I drive.

80 in a 65. Took the "Driver Improvement" class. What a load of crap. VA has ultra conservative speed limits. Many roads here jump up 10 to 15mph when crossing into Maryland or WV.

Does anyone know the rules as far as a cop pulling you over in another state? When I was on a road trip a long time ago, my dad was cruising at around 120 in our Shelby Charger about 10 miles from the Kansass/Colorado Border. He said that if a cop saw him, he could outrun him to the border, and be fine.

Your Dad was wrong. The highway patrol WILL follow past a state line, AND notify the neighbouring state of the chase, involving them as well. When they catch you, you will have the number of charges doubled on you as both states pile them on. Had your Father been caught speeding like that, he would have spent a considerable amount of time in the greybar hotel.

Well i have been fortunate enough not to get caught, but it came close.
In KM/h, i was doing 170 in a 90 zone, 90 being the average highway limit in Quebec.

Lucky for me the cop was just backing into his hiding spot when i saw him so i had to stand on the brakes or i would have gotten slapped with a real ugly ticket.

Is it just in Quebec, or does it happen everywhere that cops hide with their radar guns?

I mean they actually hide, they are never out in open view like on the road side, always behind an overpass, behind a sign or on top of an overpass. Is this just Quebec, or everywhere?

I have been to the US several times and much of Canada but i never really noticed.

Someone enlighten me please

Here's a stupid person story for y'all:

A buddy of mine was driving an Eclipse and got pulled over in a small town on a two lane highway for going about 15 over the limit.

Speeding 15 over
No Insurance
Expired registration
Suspended license

The cop LET HIM GO!!! However... an hour later he got pulled over in ANOTHER town. Yep, speeding. This time he wasn't so lucky. Car impounded, no money to get it out, so the bank repo'd it.

You would think he would learn a lesson. Someone up above gave him a serious bit of grace and he blew it.

I got two tickets in the highways around Detroit.
I'm a canadian, and cross the Detroit/Windsor border everyday to go to work on the US side.

I had been driving fast, 80/90 on 70mph highways for about two years before my first ticket. And I was actually coming from a bar, and I had a loud CD on and I think i was doing 90 in a 60. I was scared pretty bad. But I had only had two beers in 3 hours or so, the cop gave me the test, had me stand on one leg and all that, I told him to just go ahead and give me the breathalizer I knew I was under the legal limit. In the end the cop told me that out of the all the people he's pulled over and tested, that was the best anyone has ever done and gave me at ticket for 15 over.

The second time, it was a few months after this ticket, same highway, I'm driving slow and carefull now, but these guys are bugging me driving really slow in the left lane, so I am changing lanes a lot, and overtaking on the right also, but all the time keeping within a few mph of the speed limit. A cop pulled me over and gave me a ticket for doing 5 !! over.

I think that was an 85$ ticket. The 15 mph over was something like a 125$ ticket.

Btw. if you're courious, being a canadian and getting a ticket in the states, the cop asked me for 100$ cash as bond/proof that I would show up in court. He did not take credit cards. He would have accepted like a CAA/AAA card for example that can be used as bond up to $1000 dollars. Having neither, they take your drivers license and give you a receit. You get your drivers license back after you show up to pay your fine.. Also, I doubt that any points got transferred to the canadian side of the border, my insurance rate never went up.

I pushed my car to 95 but one of my friends was almost urinating inside my car so I had to slow down so he wouldn't....

One day coming home from school I hear a giant farting noise and in my mirror in the right lane (I was in the left lane) there's this civic with a body kit, dubs, and a big ugly wing. I drop to 3rd, nail it, and rocket my way away complete with wounded rear end (still not fixed since hit by '93 SC1 in oct '02), but I put it back into 5th and calm down back to the same speed as the car next to me so he couldn't pass. This really irratated him, and since I had to take a left at the next light, there was room for him to give me a 'flyby'. I wonder what that chinese lettering on his driver's door window means in English. Is that even legal?

I have a bunch of other stories, like how I beat a rather new yellow Integra "type R" with steelies, but despite seeing hoards of the fuzz, I never got stopped.

Yeah, for doing 92 in a 75 on I-10 outside of el paso. I was just following traffic...

Turns out the cop was sympathetic (we were coming home from a funeral) and let me off with a written warning.

I got a ticket for failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident. I was guilty of this seeing that I was following to closely to the Astro van in front of me while driving my mom's dustbuster (aka Lumina van). He had to make a sudden stop, and I ended up clipping him while trying to maneuver around him, since I didn't leave enough room to stop in time. To keep the ticket from staying on my record, Cook County allowed me to take a 4-hour driver safety course.

Lucky for me, I only had to spend two hours in the class. The electricity went out in the court house while I was attending class, so the rest of the class was cancelled and the ticket was removed from my record!

I've gotten one speeding ticket, but it wasn't in my Saturn. It was in my 1984 Chrysler E-Class (think stripped down New Yorker) aka. The Ghetto Sled. I was 16, being a dumbass, and speeding next to my high school. The cop clocked me at 40 in a 20. It was only 5 minutes before the end of the zone time, so almost everyone was already gone, but because of the 20mph over, he considered it still in the zone. It was my first ticket so I was pretty upset; thought my parents were gonna kill me. I went to court for it, and the first thing the judge said to me was something like "I'm guessing you want to take defensive driving and get this dismissed?" I said yes and paid the court costs. in Texas, you can take defensive driving and get a ticket dismissed, but only once every four years I think. Funny thing was, one of my friends was in the same defensive driving class. She got a ticket for "Failure to maintain control of the vehicle". Some crazy guy came around a blind corner, taking his half in the middle, while it was raining. She swirving to avoid him, got clipped, and started hydroplaning. Hit a guardrail and flipped her Chevy Blazer end over end and hit a tree, while the guy fled the scene. So the cop gave her the ticket. BTW, I'm 22 now.

I have gotten 2 tickest so far. Both last year about a month and a half apart from each other. The first was in voorhees near the echelon mall when I had to make a left across 2 lanes of traffic. Didnt know there was a cop around and he gave me a ticket for careless driving. I didnt think I did anything wrong but he thought different.

The other was right in my hometown of Lawnside when I was leaving work at UPS. I was going down the street and it changes from a 35 to a 25 mph zone. As I got ready to go into the 25 I braked. Just then a cop went past did a quick U-turn and gave me a ticket for 38 in a 25. Any way went to court and just paid court cost and fines and got the points dropped.

that's funny that my experience is the opposite. my blue green 92 sc got pulled over 8-9 times while my red 96 sc2 has only been pulled over once and no ticket. except for the color and rear wing and reflex planels they looked identical with the same wheels and springs plus i had a 95-96 sc2 front fascia on the 92 sc so i could use the foglight holes for brake cooling ducts.

only time i ever got stopped was oct. last year, my room mate and i went down to nashville for a concert, on the way back we were chatting and a cop stepped out in front of my car from behind a utility pole and waved me over into a parking lot with a flashlight, i didn't know until i read the ticket what he pulled me over for, 40 in a 30....at midnight with two maybe three other cars on the road, and the speed limit had just changed to 30 from 40 like a quarter of a block from where i was stopped....i was confused and the cop was a jerk...then tried to bust me on my tinting even though i was an out of state driver....oh well...lesson learned....didn't go on my record either

In April 2001 out by Madison Wisconsin I was doing 120 mph in a 65 zone in my SL2 when I saw the cop. Oops. I slammed the breaks I hard as I dared at that speed but of course it was too late.

After I was pulled over the cop said something like "I tagged you at 105 and I know you were slowing down as fast as you could." There was much yelling at me at that point. I explained (truthfully) that my Dad had suddenly taken ill and wasn't expected to live the night. So he only gave me a ticket for doing 84mph. Thanks! :)

Coincidentally I was on the same strip of highway in January or February 1994 in a friend's borrowed Honda Civic also doing 120mph when the cop caught me going at that speed. More coincidentally, my Mom had suddenly taken seriously ill and I was trying to get home as fast as I could. The cop told me at that speed he had no choice but to arrest me on the spot for going 50mph over the speed limit, but despite this actually let me go after a lot of screaming and just a verbal warning.

On a side note, those are truly the only two times I have ever really speeded (i.e. more than 10mph over the posted limit).

Never had a speeding ticket in my Saturn. As a rule of thumb, I go no more than 5 mph over the limit. On the other hand, if I am on a highway and the traffic is moving at 20 mph over the limit, I go with the flow.

In 2001, I once got pullled over late one night in my former SL2 following someone to closely and a officer pulled me over and asked me if I had a problem. He told me that even though the guy was driving 20 miles under the speed limit I should be more patient. I agreed with him and as I went to show him my license he saw my state probation officer badge and he quickly change his tune and told me to drive safely as he turned away to go back to his cruiser.

Several months later right before Christmas, I was running late to a staff meeting in my SL2, one of the fleet cars at work were not available so I had to drive my own car. The service engine light flashed on my car which grab my attention and all the sudden a police crusier fell in behind me with his siren blaring and lights flashing, I promptly pulled over and the officer ran up to my car hollering and screaming at me. I calmly looked at him and listen and he asked me what I was thinking driving 54 in 35, and I told him that I didn't see the sign that showing the speed limit drop and then told me I shouldn't be driving if I can't read. I then pulled out my license and he saw my badge and he then had the nerve to tell me that if I am a probation officer I should no better not to speed. I told him I was sorry and told him that I should have known better but have been under a lot of stress at work and he said here is some more stress for you has he handed me a citation. A month later I went to traffic school and the officer teaching the class knew me from my duties as an PO and asked me why I was there. I told him what I did and he told me what I did was not really that bad and told me that the officer that gave me a ticket had an attitude problem and has had many complaints called in on him.

I admit that I still speed from time to time in my VUE. It's kind of hard to hold her back on the freeway. However, I do have a radar detector to help keep me out of trouble.

Technically, no. But I have been pulled over.

I was on I-70 several miles East of Denver, going between 90 and 95 m.p.h. while the speed limit was 75. I had my radar detector on, just in case. I went over a rise, and I saw a police car parked on the side with the lights off. I immediately hit the brakes, and slowed down to 80. The cop must have noticed because a few seconds later my radar detector's K band went crazy. His headlights immediately went on. When he caught up to me, he turned on his light bar. After pulling over onto the shoulder, he got out and walked over beside my car. Basically, he started off by saying that I was going a little fast back there. However, he couldn't ticket me because by the time he clocked me, I was to far away for him to get an "accurate reading". But, since I was already pulled over, he checked my drivers' license and insurance. After all that checked out, he let me go.

I got stoped once going 50 in a 25 but I thought it was a 45 because it was Route (kinda like a mini highway). Normally routes are 45 when they go through a town. I was going that fast because my car was running out of gas and I was pulling into the gas station and that was where the Sate cop was. So he followed behind me as I pulled in and I pulled right up to the pumps...when the cop came over I pressed the auto window button and said Fill it up regular please. I got away from the ticket because I told the truth and he was a good cop. He said because "your being honest I will let you go this time." Then he pulled right back to his spot. He never did fill my car up so I had to do the work.

P.S. Just kidding bout asking him to fill it up but I did pull up to the pumps and he did too and walked to my door. :-D It would ahve been funny if I said that but then I would ahve been arrested or ticketed.

I've gotten the only two tickets in my life exactly two weeks after getting a new Saturn. First one clocked me at 90 in a 65. He was very generous. He pulled me over and spent 30 minutes asking me all about my new SC2. He said since I was obviously just "getting a feel for my new car" that he couldn't fault me too bad and put down that I was going 74. Nice guy.

The second time was when I was driving to work on a Sunday morning on an 8-lane interstate and legitimately didn't realize how fast I was going in my new L300. Cop was nice and said he clocked me at 74 again even though I was going 90 or higher.

Of course I've been caught. I had a cop chase me for 15 miles with lights on but no siren. he said i was doing 97 in a 55 and 105 in a 65. He had been following me since i left work i just never noticed him till i was getting on the hiway and looked back to see if anyone was coming. He let me go because I knew him but said to slow the ******* down before I kill someone. Its nice to become friends with your local pd. LOL :)

I lost my license twice for 30 days due to speeding in my '97 SL1. Little nitpicky, quota-reaching MA staties can **#*@#*@#**@*!! Anyway, I have been fortunate with my Ion 2. I set the cruise to 75 in a 65 zone, open the sunroof, and just enjoy the ride. In a 55 zone, I'll set it at 60-65. At times, though, I have gone up to 80-85 in a 65 zone- I didn't want to get trampled in the Highway Jungle!

#1 45 in a 30 -- Traffic school, no damage to record. $150 later.

#2 "unsafe lane change" across six lanes of traffic, no proof of insurance in vehicle, and no registration in vehicle. I go to court in february. I'm gonna win. Mainly because... why would I get in the carpool lane @ 7:30 on a sunday night, when my exit is only 1.4 miles away from where I got on the freeway. Insurance and reg. we're in another car, at the time. We'll see how it turns out. If I don't, this is going to be almost $500 dollars -- just for the lane change, w/o insurance and registration, it would've been almost $1200. Yikes!

The most memorable stop was in, of course, my SL2. After the cop had me sign the citation, he stepped back and looked over my car and said, "This is a real nice car, do you like it?"..... seeing that I had nothing else to lose, I replied, "yeah, it's pretty fast." :D

:dizzy: You said WHAT to a cop that just gave you a speeding ticket?!? Man, I I said anything like that any of the many times I got pulled over, I wuld have been hauled to jail for public endangement!

I also have had my license suspended twice. Once for a month and the other for 6 mos. I am currently riding out that sentence. I wont get it back untill March. I'm 18 and was planning on moving out soon, but thats out of the question now. My Parents take me everywhere.
I drive a '96 SL-1 5-speed, new exaust(?). Just adding that performance part has increased my HP enough that I can leave smoke and black marks. Thats good for my car. It never did that before.

I have been pulled over in my 95 sl1 I was in a speed trap and the officer lowered the fine for me and I took the class to keep the points off. Then a few months later after I gave it to my wife so I could get my Ion 3 Iwas pulled over in another speed trap doing 57 in a 45 I wanted to tell him I was doing a good 80 when I satrted to slow down before they got me. Lets see...

94 mph in a 55
77 mph in a 55
75 mph in a 55

I got 94 reduced to 80-something otherwise I would have lost my license on the spot.

77 mph I paid and let go. Its the first ticket I ever got in PA.

75 mph in a 55 I had reduced to 60 in a 55 - fine but no points.

I've also been to traffic "school" after I had accumulated 6 points.

I haven't gotten a ticket in a while so I think I have lost some points. I was at a point for a while where one more ticket=suspended license.

...the wife did, driving my car, amusingly enough.

Tooling along I-80 in the middle-of-nowhere, PA, I was half asleep, as it was like 7.30am. Pop up over a rise, see cop :o: , stand on brakes, still get nailed. Clocked at 82 in a 65, but as it was blatantly a BS revenue ticket (we're not going to fight a ticket 3.5 hours drive away), he wrote it as 75. Still, the ticket was >$100 :tear:
She thinks it was mainly cos the car rides so smooth that she didn't even notice she was doing 80 :p

Me, I've been lucky. Regularly zoom along the 50-55 highway near me at 70, but see the cops sitting on the shoulder just in time to slow down sharp like. Stupid road is just a collection of speed traps joined with asphalt, so rarely get to open her up. But hot damn, she really really pulls off the line...

i got nailed doing 86 in 70 by a Tennessee State Trooper the other day while driving my VUE. He did not care that I was a Juvenile Probation Officer for the State of Tennesse. (Most local law enforcement would have cut me a break.) He also didn't care that I was going with the flow of traffic. He basically told me that he happen to look up and visual saw me go by and therefore picked me.
The only good thing from this situation is that the fact that I have a "clean" driving record and this is my first offense in the town he pulled me over, I should be able to go to traffic school instead of going to court and keep this one off my record.
I do have a question for the members of law enforement on this board. When a series of cars drive by exceding the speed limit and are not violating other traffic laws (i.e. weaving in and out of traffic or following to close) who do you choose to pull over. Do you ever pick out the junky cars, expensive cars, or pimped out cars?

I was doing 98 in a 65 at night, i saw the cop flip on his lights and cross the median, so i switched of my fog lights and ducked in between two semis and slowed way down. By the time he caught up and he passed me by looking for some sucker with four sets of lights not just two, i quickly excited the highway and that was a close as i have come to getting a ticket ever.

Yeah yeah i know this is kind of a dead post but i got to tell a store... a rather funny yet stupid story...

To answer the question Yes 4 tickets....

#1) friday night, little wet out.... pulled over doing 103 in a 45 + drag racing (yes i won ahha) [sl2 92]

#2) 31 in a 25 on private property.... yeah what bull... it was at my school...[92 sl2]

#3) Unsafe acceleration and 79 in a 45. Once again drag racing [sl2 01]

#4) Now this is the best one. and well i got to tell the story behind it to... I live in Chicago and myself along with some of my friends wanted to go up to canada.... to... not drink.... okay fine it was basicly a drinking trip and its legal to drink there ate the age of 19, still some of us were under that age. Well anyways on the way home i was doing about 90 and decided "hell its an open road and why not stomp on it" ehh what a mistake that was, came over a hill and i was like wow if i was a cop i would be sitting right there... and sure as hell there was one... Ticket was for 182 kph. Well that is basicly 115 in a 55.... In canada that is a feloney speeding ticket. Well it was about 1/4 mile from the us border. The cop handed me the ticket and told me i would need to return for court i laughed at him and told him i was not going to come back nor was i going to pay the ticket. He then took the ticket back from and and asked "Well what would a reasonable ticket be back in the states" I laughed and i was like "50 bucks?" he wrote me a ticket for 25kph or something like that... it was 115 CAD. Buuuuut i decided not to pay it. About 4 months later they sent me a letter asking "Please pay your fines we need the money to pay for our highways and workers" and well went on like that. So i payed them....

Anyways im done.

The only one that really ticked me off was for going 80 in a 65 zone. The annoying thing was that I was in the left lane passing at about 75, and the cop pulled behind me in a very stealthily marked car (lights inside, no markings visible from the front). He basically tailgaited me until I sped up to pass more quickly (to let him pass me). Then he pulled me over! He was a real @#!$ too. :hothead:

When I had My 200 LS2 I got pulled over on Fathers day by the CHP.
I was cruising at 95mph, and was about to peg it to 120 (damn limiter), when I saw a pair of headlights come around the bend behind me. Next thing I see is a little red light where their rearview mirror is, so I pulled over. Mind you that this was at 430am on a sunday morning...the freeway was empty, and it was on a 2 mile straightaway with no on/off ramps, so for all you saftey concious guys, I was only endangering myself at the time (Been yelled at B4). Any way, the CHP officer comes up to my car, gun drawn, spotlights on, etc. I told him who I was and where I was going (to work), and gave him my license and insurrance card, and he walked back to his partner. At this time I was thinking "oh **** I just lost my License!!". The officer walks back to my car, hands me my license, insurance card, and tells me to keep it down, and when I enter back on to the freeway to..."well, You've already proven you can go fast....have a nice day!
I've been pulled over for speeding several other times, in my '00 LS2, my '97 SL1, My '02 SC2, but the only time I ever got a ticket was in my 1993 blue SL1, which had an enormous 87 or so horsepower! I was on the 405 in the fast lane going to work, and there were to mustangs cruising slow, so I passed on the Left (Six lanes Northbound 405), and the next thing I know there's a truck right on my ass. I go over another lane to let him pass, and thats when he hit the lights! Pulled over by a damn CHP Pick-up truck! 87 in a 65!!

Yes I have. I turned 16 on Sep. 21, 04 and I got my liscense on Sep. 24, 04 and got a speeding ticket on Oct. 4, 04. I have a red 99 SC1. I got my liscense early in the morning and on my half hour trip to school I got it up to 92. Anyways, on the day I got my ticket, I was heading home from school when I passed one of my friends in his 88 Cutlass Supreme. I guess he thought I wanted to race so he passed me back. He kept up a pretty nice speed so I tried to keep up with him. I wasn't looking at my speedometer and started to pass him back. I looked down when my limiter kicked in and I had the needle buried at 110. I just got past him, pulled into the right lane, and he started passing me back going up a hill in a no passing zone. We got to his girlfriends house and when I was leaving I did a few second burnout. I was heading home to drop my friend off that was in my car and I just wasn't paying attention to my speedometer. Around here all the cops have the lights inside so it's hard to tell if a car is a cop car or not. I looked in my rear view mirror to see him slamming on his brakes and whipping it around. Turns out I was doing 73 in a 55 and he gave me a ticket. I talked to the District Attorney and he dropped it from 18 over, $181 and 3 points to 5 over, $156 and 2 points. Lesson learned.

zone so after i had pased a construction zone i puntched it and man did i take off like a shot.so hear i am speeding down a country road and i look in my rearvue mirror and way back in the distance i see these headlights flashing.im like where the hell were you hiding.but if i didnt slow down
he would have never cought me i was going so fast and still going faster
but i thought it would be best if i puled over. so i did.
i must have wated about a min for him to catch me
to my saprise he was not an ass so he asks me for all my info
but i could only give him my insurance cuse the girlfrind had everything else
at home.so i get three tickets one for no licens and one for no redg and the best one was do not pay money but manditory court appearance
that was a good one.iwas clocked doing 122kmh in a 50kmh zone.
id tell more but thats another story.

once in 1975....75 in a 55...told the officer it was a new car...he told me to take it back and get the speedometer checked....
second time 2003...79 in a 55 construction zone on the PA turnpike...what was I thinking?!?!?! That one cost me. Told the officer once every 25 years ain't bad. Speeding is bad for your wallet and unsafe as well.

75 in a 65 at 4pm on north 15 through san diego (with traffice going an easy 80). he was nice and i just laughed and said thanks. I even asked hime to show me how the radar on the bike works. I'll have to pay it (and i currently have $1.81 in the bank), but i can do traffic school so it won't go on my record. I was pretty proud of myself, didn't get worked up at all, not even angry. And the cop was nice enough. I asked him why i got pulled over out of everyone going the same speed, and he just said it was "bad luck, you just happened to be the one i pulled in behind." Poop happens.

Poop does happen. Last year my wife got a ticket in a school zone. There were no kids around and she turned into the school zone on a side street and didn't see the lights since there were none off that street. No other vehicles were around so she couldn't tell it was a school zone until it was too late. Here in TX it's double the fine for school and construction zone fines....... :dizzy:

I got a ticket for 78 in a 65 in my old '93 SL2. I took defensive driving and it was all cool. I got a warning from a State Trooper for 80 in a 70. I got a ticket for 55 in a 30 while delivering pizzas but I got that cleared (the uniform does have some benefits. In my defense, the road is perfectly flat and straight 2-lane with a center turn lane. Conditions were perfect and little traffic. I just should have checked the rear view one more time. In general, you can do 5 over no problem and often 10 over. More than that, you take your chances.

I got a ticket for 78 in a 65 in my old '93 SL2. It was about 10 PM on a saturday so I guess they were just warming up for all of the drunks they'd get later. I took defensive driving and it was all cool.

I got a warning from a State Trooper for 80 in a 70. It was a 4 lane undivided highway. They saw me and pulled a u-turn. I slowed to the speed limit trying to look all innocent but they caught up to me a mile or two later. I was cool and polite. Seeing I had (and still have) a clean record, I just got a written warning.

I got a ticket for 55 in a 30 while delivering pizzas but I got that cleared (the uniform does have some benefits). The cop was local P.D. It was obvious I was on the job, complete with steaming bags of pizza and cartop sign. I calmly asked about where he paced me but he said "You know, I'm not writing a citation for that illegal licece plate frame". It was obvious he was hinting that I should shut up or another ticket would be forthcoming. In my defense, the road is perfectly flat and straight 2-lane with a center turn lane. Conditions were perfect and little traffic. I just should have checked the rear view one more time. :blockhead

In general, you can do 5 over no problem and often 10 over. More than that, you take your chances. Just blend in and you'll be fine.

I have, unfortunatly. I was doing 41 in a 25 zone in a really bad neighbor hood. The cop told me he would have let me go if it wasnt that time of night and that part of the town. :(

I got out of six in one night... He had me on speeding, careless driving, running the stop sign and the light, no insurance, no license(I had one just not with me), and improper lane change. I got out of them all b/c my mother sold him the house he lives in. I told him either way i was losing my license that night, he could give me all those tickets and I'd lose it that way or call my mom and lose it like that. When I got home the first thing she said was "Give it to me". This was about 4 years ago but its still kinda funny, I'm 22 now and license is suspended for not paying a couple of tickets I guess I'll never learn.

My sole ticket and speed stop in my 97sl2 was on a long stretch of road that was 35 mph but is totally straight for 2 1/2 miles so it is fun to verify your top speed (or governor speed) on this road. Cops only patrol it at night and i never speed on it at night unless it is between midnight and 6:30 am but one night at 7:35 i said to hell with it and busted for 65 in a 35. Damn.

I once got 3 tickets in the span of 1 week all in my 94' SL1 with 200K miles on it at the time. 2 were bogus but the third was legit. I guess my 85hp was enough for 76mph in a 55mph!

Well i was coming back from Nebraska and i was in Iowa (most boring state to drive through) and i was doing like 90 mph on the highway and all of the sudden i see behind me a state trooper so i slow down and merge over to the right lane and the officer stays in the left lane then finally goes in the right lane behind me and flashes his lights and pulls me over.

He walks up to my car and asks for my license and registration (why do they ask for registration, registration is your title, anyways) so I show him it and he was do you know how fast you were going and i told him Yea I was doin like 90 and he was like yea i know you were goin fast but I didnt know how fast cuz i seen you go flying past when i was coming onto the highway and couldnt get a correct reading on you. So he let me go since he didnt get me on radar and I was like sweet.

As a matter of fact i got pulled over yesterday. We came back home from seeing my wife's grandma and family in east Texas out by Annona. We were going to spend the night there but left early because my wife was feeling sick. It was about 10 at night when we were travelling southbound on highway 37 in Mount Vernon when the speed limit suddenly changed from 70 to 55 rounding the corner. A cloaked local pulled up behind me, lights flashing. As the officer got out, he was about a good ol' boy if ever i saw one. He was probably just out of the academy. After asking for license and registration, he went back to his cruiser for what seemed like an eternity. My heart sank to the pit of my stomach because i knew that as a CDL holder, i can't take defensive driving to dismiss the ticket (at least in Texas, i dunno about elsewhere) i was doing 67 in a 55. i was thankful though as he let me off with a warning. i drove to Annona at 75-80; i drove the rest of the 175-mile trip home at 65! Word of warning-these cops in these rinky-dink towns don't have anything better to do than watch paint dry and write tickets! i'm thankful and lucky i ran into a nice one (or one that was at the end of his shift and didn't want to deal with the paperwork)

90 in a 45, in my L200. Had the car for 4 months, was listening to my trance music and I passed a minivan, oops hi Roswell Police! The cop was VERY nice, considering I pulled over to the side of the road and turned off my car 50 seconds before he parked behind me. He knew he had me, and I knew it too. Ticket was knocked down to 23 over, just at the limit for reckless.

Not in my Saturn, last ticket was in 1971 going to Milwaukee to visit my girlfriend (now wife) while she was in college. Was racing a Dodge Super Bee down HWY 141 with my 1969 Nova SS. Speedometer was buried and tach still going up. Super Bee was just ahead doing the same when we passed a unmarked State Trooper. Took him five miles to catch up. He stated we were going so fast he couldn't clock us. But was flabbergasted that we had both pulled over. Gave us a ticket for going to fast for conditions, (Clear Blue Skies) and numerous violations with the cars loud exhaust etc... Think the fine at the time was 45.00.

Yah, I've been caught a couple of times but the best was right by my neighborhood.

At about 11pm, I was waiting for the light to change and about 100 yds away and just over a hill a cop was waiting with his lights off. I gassed it when the light changed (of course not knowing about the cop) and when I passed him I was doing 72 in a 35. Ouch. He pulled me over (of course), but he couldn't believe I was moving so fast in a saturn (courtesy of CAI and a mod chip). He was so impressed by the car (and the fact that I was taking my little brother home from indoor soccor practice. What a good brother...) that he cut my ticket to 50 in a 35 and let me drive home.

I couldn't even believe how lucky i was. He could've hauled my butt off to jail for reckless driving. WHEW!!

Got one today 78 in a 50. I new I shouldn't have read this post yesterday. O'well 127 buck down the drain. If I had all the money that is have given to this great state over the past few years I could have a turbo on all 3 of my Saturns. Best ticket I ever got was 120 in a 75. That was in 1997 in a 1990 Toyota Tercel DX modded to the max. Saturn cuts out at 108 all 3 of them. I am glad though my 96 is a great deal of fun to drive but I don't want to die in it. When I have the need the need for speed I get into my 1986 Toyota AE86 with custom paint, rims, every motor option you can get. Stage 3 turbo stage 3 nitrous and all other stage 3 options. Heck it even has airbags and spinners. *if you think that nice you should see the other cars in "my garage"* You know Need For Speed Underground 2 was a fun game till I beat it.

I got my first ticket ever in a Saturn three years ago this summer.

I was doing 70 in a 55 (two-lane country road, straight as an arrow). The cop pulls me over and introduces himself and lets me know that he's going to write me a ticket.

He comes back in a couple minutes and says that he knocked it down to 60 in a 55 since my wife and I were wearing seatbelts. He then says to me apologetically, "The fines here in Renville County (about two hours SW of Minneapolis) went up this year, but they're still pretty competitive with the other counties in Minnesota." (Thanks for sharing, I'll keep that in mind next time)

Then he hands me the ticket and goes on to say that the county is running a safe driving campaign and they're handing out "free" air fresheners (the pine tree shaped ones) with every ticket. I guess that was the most expensive air freshener I've ever gotten!

I've had three. One was in the middle of Pennsylvania, I was doing 83 in a 65 and a state cop got me by hiding down a hill around a corner. Gave me the ticket for 5 over. I had already driven 7 hours by myself on my way to Philly and just couldn't wait to get out of the car, on the bright side he didn't catch me when I had been doing 90! My other two tickets were locally, I was doing 40 in a 25 and got the tickets for 5 over both times. The part that annoys me is all my tickets were speed trap tickets. :upset: My last speeding ticket was last year in June and I hope to keep it that way. I did get a ticket for not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign back in Feb but that was a bogus ticket, sadly our traffic judge in my city is a ***** so I didn't even bother fighting it. My boyfriend took his last ticket to court and she was rude and snotty to him and all the other people there and didn't throw out any of the tickets and basically told everyone they should be happy she didn't raise their tickets!

well this was not in my saturn, but my old 89 probe gt. got caught showing off to my freinds smoking the tires around a corner. the cop was sitting in a parking lot right in front of the corner and id did not see him cause there where cars in the way. he pulled me over and said laughingly "just so you don't try to change this in court I wrote on the top of the ticket spinning tires around corner, smoke off tires" then he handed me the ticket for exibition driving $70 and 4 point ouch! then a week later I got a ticket in a mini van of all things for peeling out and the cop gave me a ticket for the same thing. and it was another $70 and for points. It was in avis rental car never drove for avis agian. the funny part is my insurance never caught them. this was all in a weeks time back in 98. OH well live and learn. I have never been stopped in my current Saturn (2000 SL1) but I passed a state boy with a kodak and was clocked at 124 in a 55 with my 94 SL2 about 8 years ago.

He reduced it to 87 in a 55 to keep me from going to jail and impounding but it still cost a bunch of loot and 6 points on the license all at once!

It was about 3am and I was the only one on the road. All I saw of him was a white blur on the side of the road until the blur lit up red and white and blue. :P Woops.

Luckily, never anything since.

I did slide on a wet road (ironically as I was going to get new tires) in my 2000 and slid into the back of a local police cruiser. No damage luckily and boy was I "Mr. Congeniality" to the officer. No repercussions luckily. I still look for car 19 sometimes! :)

i have the same exact birthday, and i got my license the same day ( i passed on the 23rd, but the power went out so they printed it up the following day)

No, but I have been pulled over for going too slow. I was on my way home, in the middle lane because the rightmost lane was about to disappear before I get to the exit I take, and I was going about 45 in a 55 because it was uphill and I wanted to avoid downshifting and accelerating uphill to save gas. The cop asked if I had been drinking, and then said he was worried about traffic from a nearby Indian casino rear-ending me, and I told him what exit I was about to take to get home and that I was trying to save gas, and he smiled and agreed, "Yeah, we all are these days." and let me go. Not sure if he was a CHP or a San Diego county sheriff, but in general the cops I've dealt with in this area all seem like pretty decent people so far.

No, not in any of the Saturns that I've owned, but the I got nailed driving one of the Limo's my company owns (47 in a 25, so says the cop who "lit" me up with the radar gun). Imagine, a limo full of little old ladies(driving Miss Daisy), and being pulled over for speeding. I figured, I'm only a "few" miles "over" the speed limit, no tickets in 23 years of driving, certainly this "indiscretion" will merit a "warning". Well, I now call recieving a ticket in the ATL "revenue sharing", (you bring the revenue, the ATL PD. will "share it" with you.) $167. 00 for this little indescretion, and 3 points on my on my driving record as a reminder that a lead foot is expensive. Ultimately, this ticket beats having the ATL. PD. "fit" you with jail house jewelry(handcuffs), stuffing you in a cruiser, and confining you to their "accomodation" with bars to become someones "girlfriend" while you figure out the social graces of the ATL detention center.

yes i'v been yanked twice for speeding, the first time was when i was leaving work, i work for united airlines in syracuse ny, and was leaving the airport so my friend and i decided to race down the road to see who was faster i own a 92 sc2, anyway the cop was sitting on a side street about a 100 yards from where we started from so we proceded down the road and passed him about 90-95 mph, so he finally pulls us over, and says im giving you a ticket for ignoring a traffic control device, both me and my friend got the same thing cost me $110. the second time i was caught at 50 in a 40 but no ticket.

...didn't know my good old trusty junker could go that fast! I figured the car would start falling apart after 55.....

Then I got pulled over for "following too closely" a state trooper. (only got a warning though) If you KNOW it's a trooper, WHY are you going to tail gate? CANT HELP my lights are SOOOOOOOOOO bright that it looks like I'm on your ass.

Wish I could of posted the pictures in my gallery, would of been cool. Ugh 3 more month to go in Kyrgyzstan. Thank god I could pay on-line :}

I drove a Nissan Altima in high school and got pulled over about a good 5-6 times. I got warnings for all of them. (I was a stud on the Varsity baseball team) But since I moved to Califonia afterwards and bought my SC2 this past spring. I got my first speeding ticket driving down to L.A. for the weekend. He said i was in the 90s but after kissing a** for 20 minutes he put down 89in a 65. I remember saying... "But sir, the flow of traffic was 80-85." He replies... Well isnt 80-85 speeding?" He was like... "your the 3rd 19 year old ive pulled over in the last 20 minutes. Turned out to be a $190 ticket.

The whole way down I was doing pretty good about blending in with the traffic and staying out of the far left lane (4-5 lane across each way) I got behind someone that was poking along so I darted over and sure enough there was a cop at the bottom of the hill...

I never was more pride hurt than that weekend in L.A. -sad times
